Dumbest thing ive done ...so far

i cant understand why i did what i did .. just plain stupid

so i put some subwoofers in my car and was poking around trying to stop all the vibrating and rattles i could .. when i popped my trunk and noticed that there was this long rod where the antenna was .. i noticed that it was shaking and rattling so i decided to take it out .. i had enough of all the rattle crap and that was it .. i was just gonna rip the dam thing out ..

so next i proceeded to un bolt it from the trunk .. then i noticed this long rod going up towards the cab so i said screw it ill just cut the dam thing out and be done with it all together ..

well i got it all done .. turned my radio up and wow ..sounded great !!

then i proceeded to close my sun roof and nothing happened ..

I CUT THE DAM CABLE TO MY SUN ROOF !!!

NOW WHAT ?? HOW THE HELL DO I FIX THAT ??

well dont really know what car you drive but yah that sucks. best bet and the cheapest is to find the car at a junk yard and steal the cable. You are going to have to take out the headliner to get the hole thing installed so good luck on that.

Too bad.....I bet it wasn't even the source of the rattle.

If you just cut off part of the tube and the cable within, they can be replaced. Go to salvage yard and get a cable and tube from a donor car. Take your time and partially remove the sunroof motor from the donor so you can see how the tube is mounted (and removed) from the motor unit. The cable is removed from the other end at the sunroof. It usually is just clipped/bolted to the bar that moves the sunroof. Use a 17mm socket and turn (gently) the emergency open/close knob on hte motor to open the sunroof for access to the cable. Reading the section in the manual on sunroofs would probably be a big help. What year/model is this on?

That's too hilarious! You didn't even bother to figure out what it was before you cut!

Latest "dumbest" thing I've done so far. Spent 4 months restoring a '72 250C to NICE condition for me to sport about in. Allowed my wife to test drive it 'cause it "looks pretty".

Currently in the process of restoring a '74 280C for ME to cruise about in now.

She sure does look good in it though, sigh.

I feel your pain. Go to the tech side and someone on the "other side" will know.

Tough crowd.....however it is bad form to kick folks while they are down.

He is already kicking himself.

Heck, I once ruined a freshly rebuilt 52 caddie motor. I don't even want to go into it after 15 years!

Bummer!

One of my worst FUBAR's:
Had an Audi up on a jack, jack under rear axle. Fixed muffler. Reached in thru window, started car. Car wasn't in neutral! Had a wierd upward dent, a BIG one, in the floor of the trunk after that.
