If they're willing to pay, then there you go. Come to Texas - we don't have that problem.

"MalibuHD power newz"? Great source, I'm sure he will get it right.
I was especially impressed with the man-on-the-street interview - very insightful and stimulating observations from a guy that looks like he was from Berkeley. If you don't like the price a particular station is charging for gas here is some free advice - don't go there. Unlike many federal government programs and tax policies you have the CHOICE when and where you buy your gas... at least for now anyway.

Cry my a river. When I was in SD back in Jan, I saw gas for $2.99-$2.89, while it was almost $3.20 back here. I know its a big state, but cry me a river.

Other factors
Sure, big oil is punishing you for not allowing drilling rigs between Long Beach and Catalina Island, but there are other factors why your fuel should be higher.
What is the monthly lease payment on a convenience store and parking lot piece of property in Malibu? Are there people living within walking distance of the gas station willing to work for $7.00/hr? How much does the delivery driver charge for delivering a truck full? It has to be more than in an area of low wages and little traffic. I can see why people there are tempted to go grease.

Hey, at least it isn't $1.17(Euro)/liter, I think that comes to $6-7(US)/gallon. But the day may be coming, unless commodities tank first. Welcome to the new "Commodities Bubble" folks.
