Girlfriend's Neighbors

My girlfriend and her roommate have been having some trouble with their neighbors that live downstairs from their apartment who moved in after they did. They (two guys)play obnoxiously loud bass heavy music and smoke pot all day. The smoke reaches my girlfriend's apartment (which REEKS at times)and her roommate gets a 2nd hand high, (makes her anxious and paranoid sometimes) which is troublesome when you're trying to study. Plus she has some sort of lung condition and she coughs a lot. GF's roommate talked to these lowlifes and asked them to smoke outside so the smoke wouldn't get into her apartment, they just balked at that. She talked to them again and she said they say they're "medical patients" and they pulled out some paper that allows them to get medical marijuana. She apparently also heard them say "Here comes that whore" when she was walking by. They were also going to say something to my GF but they stopped mid-sentence when they saw me walking alongside her. Cowardly lowlives they be.

The girls have written some letters to the leasing office so we'll see how that goes, should they just call the police the next time they smell the pot? Or will that make matters worse? Will the Leasing Office do anything? Feel free to give me any advice to relay, and tell some bad neighbors stories too.

Ara,

Im in a situation somewhat similar, but mine involves busy body, old retired neighbors.

your landlord has an obligation to act on your behalf. have her put everything in writing to the landlord and demand a stop to the situation. also, consult the police and get them on your side. video tape EVERYTHING. most likely, they will retaliate, usually on your personal property (cars, etc). it can and will get ugly whenever people try to socially correct others.

Good site, thank you Bob. They are not my neighbors thankfully, but my girl and her roommates problem unfortunately. They really have been trying to be friendly and even baked these idiots brownies. The dudes didn't even say thank you or anything. What happened to common courtesy?

Truth be told I'd be able to sleep peacefully at night if they were hit by an 18 wheeler.

Ara,

trust me, i understand. i mean, you can go two ways: befriend them and hope they'll come around or ignore them. but if they are the a-holes you describe them as, better to get the advice of the local PD as well as an attorney. oh this is important: the freakin' lame arse PD in my home town gave me the advice that "whenever stuff goes down, call us and we'll make a report so you can have some history of the dispute". well 3 years later, i finally decide enuf is enuf. so guess what? Those dork arses only filed TWO reports in the last 3 years. later i learned that for neighbor to neighbor disputes, often times the police do not write anything down and just talk /w the neighbors. so i recommend that if they do call the cops, they tell the cops that "based on my attorney's advice, i want an incident report and that can pick up a copy later this week". they cant refuse and if they do, make sure you tell your gf to take some badge number(s) down.

Our situation was somewhat the opposite...two dykes downstairs, deciding that beneath our son's bedroom was their "rumpus room" and under our bedroom was the "S/M" den...our living room/their living room and the kitchens (our apartment "mirrored" their layout, only we were above) were the civil areas...

One night, the wifey calls and I can hear, over the phone, muffled "screams" - the kid's in the bedroom w/mom and they want me to call the cops 'cause one of the girls is screaming for the other to "stop" - I call the cops, explain the situation (I'm in another state and I don't have 1st hand knowledge) and ask if they can go over and settle things down. Apparently, it was "handled" - then all hell broke loose.

The "butch" starts demanding that she wants the south side of the garage, then starts using our washer and dryer, parks her car far enough back that we have to go out the front door, open our side of the garage to get back into the garage to get to the laundry area...

Called the landlords (old husband (milk-toast spine) and *****y wife) and we are told if we didn't quit complaining, we'd be evicted.

Solved the problem...gave the landlords one month's notice, found the lezbos' motorcycles' batteries sitting on the window sill in the laundry room, dumped out the battery-juice, rinsed out the cells, then filled each cell w/a pinch of baking-soda and distilled water...no foaming, but no juice...

Left the place, didn't pay the last month's rent ('cause we knew they weren't going to give the deposit back without a big hassle, but paid the difference in current rent minus deposit = all even...), and got into a nicer place...garages between the apartments. All in the month of February...

Then, one shiney, warm spring afternoon, I see super-dyke, pushing her motorcycle up a ramp into the back of a pickup truck, I then re-positioned myself down the block to finish watching her pushing her "partner's" bike into the same truck.

I wondered why?

I hope they paid for ALOT for diagnosis before someone figured the batteries where toast, or more appropriately, paperweights...

Pi55 around with my family, you're going to hurt, whether you know about now, or not...

(Footnote: Met the husband (milk-toast man) about 3 years later and found out that he ended up having two heart-attacks, both were due to stress from his wife...but he hasn't left her...how dumb can you be? Could the sex (if any) be that good?)

:tt2:

Haha...brownies? Of course they didn't say thank you.....they expected a different kind.

Good luck resolving it though (well, your girlfriend).....I don't miss those days.

Don't really think that is a good idea. Diagnosis would be cheap. Now if you had drained the oil and put in antifreeze, that might be better. IIRC, it is hell on the bearings and they will seize up

ARA, Call the cops and let them decide if it is real or not. Maybe they are for real and have a license but maybe it is a photoshop.

I used to live in an apartment when I worked nights. There was a guy who parked his Camaro (1970's vintage with a big block, headers and a nasty cam) illegally under my window and who would leave for work after I got home. He would sit there and rev the darn thing for 10 minutes before taking off. I confronted the landlord who did nothing about it. I then went down one morning and asked the guy very nicely if he could park somewhere else as I was trying to sleep. I got a very plesant FU in return. Well about two months of reving inthe mornings later he started his car, reved it for ten minutes then took off. He got 1/2 way up the block when his car died. He tried to start it until the battery died and then had it towed away. It is amazing what 2 quarts of Karo syrup in the gas tank can do to a car ;)... Best thing, I was never called on it:D

i'd agree with that.i can't believe there are 2 people with the same problem that live together that have a permit for medicinal pot.here in iowa you better be on your death bed before they even consider it.if they actually do have a permit, they are probably better off just moving out.

Call the police. Illegal activities and disturbing the peace. There are citi ordinances against this.

BoomInTheTrunk 03-10-2008 03:30 PM

out in California it was really easy to get legal license for marijuana, so they could have legit license but that still doesn't take in for account that they are abusing that license. If you can smell it through the walls then they are most definitely abusing. Call the cops and have them look into it. just call about the pot nothing else that way it will look like you didn't complain about it. if they get in trouble, no more problems.

hoborobot69 03-10-2008 05:31 PM

everyones business is thier own and thats how it should stay. they shouldnt be smokin so much pot that its disturbing. music should be enjoyed by the individual. but most importantly life should be enjoyed period.

its easy to ***** about this stuff when you live under a dry roof, in a country that doesnt put you in prison for life for smoken some herb, and in a country where people are treated for the most part equely.

if you can overcome this all by killing them with kindness and letting go, you will be in better shape.

Ok, here's what you do: Get two mondo stereo speakers and lie them on the floor, facing down. Get a decent CD player and amp and hook-up the speakers. Then go to WalMart's CD section and pick up anything recorded by Slim Whitman or Freddy Fender. Insert CD into CD player, set to loop play and then leave the house and enjoy your day.

I have been a Landlord for 20 long years and I have dealt with every situation imaginable. My properties are in Ontario, Canada so the law might be different, but I think the principle would be the same. It is the Landlords responsibility to deal with noisy tenants. If the cops will respond to noise complaints, call them, but make sure you tell the Landlord as well so they can take steps to evict the noisy tenants. Here in Ontario, the cops will come out for noise complaints at any time of day, but they may take some time to get there. I think you have an even greater complaint if it is after 11 pm. Do not do anything in retaliation, as you have to consider that any actions you take may at some point be looked at by a judge. The judge has a good bull***** filter and will be able to tell who is telling the truth.

Again, tell the landlord, it is their responsibility to deal with it.
