Had a CLK63 AMG roar past me today! WOW.

I was passed by a CLK63 AMG (black on black) with some rich looking guy in sunglasses driving today. Yikes. We were both at the light first in line. Man thats a spiffy looking car. Then he took off at full tilt when it went green. WOW. The sound!! The speed! He was a speck on the horizon in seconds!!! Sounded very much like a SLR, perhaps even deeper.

I had never seen one in person nor heard one in person. You could hear and feel the low rumble/roar of the quad-pipe exhaust inside the car!! Only place I have seen them is on Top Gear on You Tube.

Just thought I'd share. Seeing one of those around here is a rarity. Most people with MB's around here are wealthy conservatives driving E320 soccer-wagons or Gray S500s. Boring...and there's not many of them.

There's quite few older MB's around here though.

Yeah the new AMG's are pretty damn cool.

I wonder if AMG stiffened the CLK up a bit, the stock one is kind of flexable.

Yes, they are loud, and awesome!

They did infact stiffen up the CLK for the purpose of making it faster.

Stiffening = more chassis bracing = more weight = faster?

I've been seeing a Black CLK63 in East Lansing, I'm surprised the air dam is still intact with the potholes....not kidding, I don't know what the GR roads are like but Lansing roads are difficult on trucks.

A stiffer chassis will allow stiffer springs and still be able to control the movements of the suspension without the confusion of the chassis flexing. This is what allows mercedes (for example) to build cars with ever stiffer springs and ever less and less ground clearance.....a stiffer chassis.

If you took an old 115 and put springs on it as stiff as what is run now the flex in the chassis would make for an out of control situation.

Each generation of benzes they figure out how to make a stiffer chassis without increasing weight (much) and so they can improve the control of the suspension and handling and ride.

So does that equal faster? well not exactly, but you see what it does do.

The CLK63 Black Series coupe is not only fast and powerful, it's also extremely light weight. The rear seat has been removed, and tons of carbon fiber has been used to save pounds. This is a serious performance car.

4000 pounds is extremely light weight?

What is the weight difference between the regular CLK63, and the CLK63 black series?

The best CLK hands down is the DTM, but those cost like $350k. Still a street legal DTM car.
