How's the job market in Columbus these days?

Here's hoping you can look back on this as a good day and soon.

Sorry to hear of your bad luck. I hope there is something around the corner.

I went to look at foundation issues in a "9 phase" neighborhood today at two homes. I saw half a dozen sitting on 1.5-3 acre lots under construction, $1.5-$3M, 7-9K sq. feet. The ones I am investigating are both 2005 vintage and are in the $600-800K range. This, in one of the 5 "poorest" states in the country. My expert (was riding shotgun) says the building market is booming, but I have no idea where the money is coming from or who is doing the building. Mysterious times indeed.

Sorry to hear that, hope you get a better job soon!

All the subs and suppliers are hurting. My unlce and I were just talking to another window company today trying to get their prices down even further. When you dangle 8 or so pretty good sized projects in front of them over the next 6-8 months they get all excited and their pencil's are laser sharp.

I am now on my last month of unemployment (emergancy extention)I Work as a plumber. Looks like I will be travelling south this year, probably atlanta ,to start.I have found myself hustleing more and more, anything to make my end$. From doing auto tunee-ups ,brakes, and any cut-yhroat plumbing gig that comes along, I have even been taking work in detroit whereas 2 yrs ago I would not have set foot in that city to work. Hang-in there ,it seems dismal initially(that feeling in your gut) ,but you will discover talents that you thuoght you never had or had bueried. I personally feel that this is a wake-up call for us Americans. By that let me say that we have become complacent , are a tad -bit lazy, and have had it too easy for a long time compared to other p[arts of the world. Animal control ordered the execution of my dog last month for attacking the neighbors dog ,and in Brazil children get killed by dogs frequently and nothinhappens, To illistrate a point.

Man, I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you find a new job soon. The world has too few skilled craftsmen.

Thanks all. At least the fundamentals are sound so I'll be rich soon .
I will probably move within the next few months.

Columbus's job market was pretty bad when I got here 3 years ago, and it's only gotten worse. I just have to find a cheaper cost of living town for a little while.

do it yourself?

Tank,

Any chance you can set yourself up in business? Lower overhead, custom work that adds value, better delivery times... and lots of tax benefits being in business for yourself.

Look into Pittsburgh. We never recovered the last recession so cost of living remains low here. There are probably towns scattered all over the rust belt that qualify as well.

Good luck thinking it all through over the next few days.

I believe skilled carpenters are in demand here in Wichita, Ks for the aircraft industry. The interior cabins on private jets, and the housing market is steady here.

Beechcraft and Cessna are wayyy behind on their orders, if I recall correctly.
