Yep, and the Jag V12.

Now the Jag V12 scares me! Heck after the V8 in my Grandparents Jag blew up, there V8's scare me too!

Buy an XJS, the S600 will look amazing in comparision!

Hmmm.. 140 body V12.... AHH !!

- evaporator will set you back a cool $4000 if it goes.
- valve cover gaskets require the entire intake being removed
- 140 but not S600 specific - closing assist pump
- front suspension bushings often.
- flat-spotting tires if you let it sit - 4700+ pounds conspire against soft V,Z-rated tires.

Other than that, it's a rocket.

Correction, $1,800 to have a good shop to the evap core for you. Even at dealer rates should be more than $2,500-$3k. I think book time is 20 or 24 hours, and the core itself like $400. My local dealer charges $105 an hour.

Flat spots on tires will happen to any car that sits, the S600 uses the same rubber and wheels as every other W140. My friend has 18in AMG's on his with super soft Dunlops, they sit all winter and are no worse for wear.

Back in Jersey, it was 29 hours for the V12 evaps so I was basing it on that and generally, if you can deal with the shimmy for a spell, the tires will "unflatten" so to speak.

A shop in NJ that was pretty damn impressive, quoted my friend $1,800 for the S600. Said they did 1-2 W140 evaps a month. I think MB of North Haven wanted like $3k.

He should jack it up our put the stockers on for storage but he won't.

Yup. It was a dealer, hence the prices. Every spring we'd get at least half a dozen 140's witn "a/c not cold" complaints that needed evaps...

Sheesh, you'd think they'd have manufactured a part of the car thats hardest to get to a little better! Leave the external stuff to break!

Designed in obsolesence my friend. Why continue to build things that last forever when they can have you back every few years for a new car. OR: have people like us that buy old cars and need parts that cost $$$$$$$.
