stupid home owners association

We got a letter today from the HOA about our driveway..... Sure.. my 300D drips some oil.. and I've had it for three years. I try and park on top of my oil pan every chance I get..

well.. they must have spotted the driveway when all 3 cars were not home.. so now we have to resurface the driveway sooner than we had wanted. We were going to wait until we moved (my parents are looking at buying a house soon)

I hope we can tar it.. black would hide future oil spots soo easily

WTF? And I thought the Hysterical District Commission was bad. Sure seems to take the private out of private property, don't it.

In my opinion the only thing worse than suburb Nazis is actual Nazis. Unfortunately that's what most folks are stuck with it looks like to me. If your driveway is just bare concrete how about just painting over it with concrete colored paint? Or how about using garage sealer out on the driveway itself. That might make it a lot easier to remove future oil spots.

I have somthing worse then a HOA to worry about - an irate girlfriend! My car has a few drips of the nastiest blackest oil and I got it on her fresh concrete carport. I caught Hell about that one until it was clean!

I just sprinkled liquid laundry detergent on it for a few hours followed by a thorough pressure washing and it did a pretty good job. I have also heard that sprinkling Portland Cement on it will suck it up then you can rinse it off into the grass.

HOA can be good or bad. I live in a sub division where I wish we had a a HOA. There was a house on a corner that had 3 beaters (drivable) that leaked so much oil that it ran down the drive lie a river. There are yards that have not seen a lawn mower in weeks. There is a car that was up on jacks for over 2 months and another van that was on jacks with no front suspension for several months.

The neighborhood is not Beverly Hills in CA but it is not the hood either. I know there are HOA's that abuse their power but if the standards are printed out and people sign on the dotted line, then people need to abide by them or fine another home. JMHO.

I will never live in a HOA subdivision. I am the guy who will have the car up on ramps all day while doing an alternator swap and radiator replacement. I also need to be able to display my rusty ole CJ with her rusty ole plow... HOAs are very rare in NY but seem to be the way things are around DC. This means I am stuck looking at older properties. Of course they also have more land than the newer houses so it is all good...

HOA are good until they don their Nazi beautification helmuts. Same goes for Condo Associations. Ours is so ridiculous they try and tell you what kind of holiday decorations are permitted......my holiday decoration is Spiderman holding a red squin and feather dress......

I live in a community with a HOA. They are somewhat strict, but I have never had a problem with them.

ARG... don't get me started.

I'll try my damnedest not to turn this into a war.. but i just have to say, I never understood home owners associations. we have a bill of rights for a reason, then people are forced to join these things when they move, and are forced to sing over some of those rights. never made since to me.

my dad is a member of one. he owns a lot not a house , just an empty lot. they have a rule about how long the grass can be. and who would have thought the weeds on a empty lot doesn't comply with those rules. (he cuts them like once every 2 months) so they decided to site him and send him a fine... so they mailed it................ to the address of the empty lot. my dad just got a letter complaining about over 2 years of fines about the length of the weeds. he didn't even know it was a problem.

Muriatic acid is the answer. I used to work for a condo association and this is how we removed oil stains from concrete. Take the proper precautions when applying it.

My HOA makes the NAZI's look nice!
They dictate what color your house must be. What plants can be in your yard. Cars have to be parked in your garage NOT your driveway overnight. No vehicles on street overnight.

You will be fined if you leave your dumpster out any other day than trash or recycle day, if they find a weed in your yard, or there are rocks kick up on the sidewalk that border your house.
