CA Taxpayers: We received a post-card from the CA EPA...
Air Resources Board. In and of itself, not a big deal. The purpose of the post-card was to let us know that all of our TRUs (Transportation Refrigeration Units, ie REEFERs) need to be in compliance with CA Emission Requirements by 12/31/08.
The only thing is we don't have any TRU's, don't do business in CA and certainly don't deliver in CA. How does our name get on a state of CA mailing list? We're a little regional seed company, 3000 miles away, with only one truck that even needs IFTA or IRP registration (meaning all mileage within each state is reported as well as trucks used and items transported-refrigeration is noted) and we don't deliver outside of New England. I wonder what they used as a basis for sending them out? How much was the postage for all of the postcards that went to other companies across the U.S. that it didn't even pertain to? It's got to add up. And you paid for it. Maybe they had to use up excess postage in the budget so that they got it back next fiscal year.

Their reach is as long as their ignorance. I'm out in the desert here and am constantly amazed at the idiocy out of Sacramento. I keep hoping that Nevada will adopt us...
