Leaving an iPod on the Dashboard is Risky

The iPods have to be modified to use space flight-approved alkaline AA batteries, though. Li-ion batteries are currently not approved for space, surely due to the possible safety issues with Li-ion batteries; the last thing Apple needs is PR about an iPod exploding on the Space Shuttle. But at least Shuttle astronauts can use iPods at all—they aren't approved for use on the International Space Station.

Make you wonder about their playlists:

Maybe they're using a cassette adapter.

I bought one of those. It doesn't seem to work in the Benz for some reason.

Nope, the computer will automatically snuff out the fire or place a forcefield around it to contain it.

I remember in 2002, one of the astronauts on the Challenger? sent a picture of Weezer's Blue album back from space. I thought "Man that astronaut has good taste."

NASA's "Doing More With Less" is still ongoing . . . they remove the lithium battery pack and simply use a Belkin AA external battery pack. $70, batteries not included. Gives about 10 hours per 4 batteries.

Amazing, I didn't think anything the government did was cheap! What a cool system the entire government should adopt it!

iPods were first marketed in October 2001 . . . what an incredibly poor attempt at a humor reference.
