need help with moms Generally Malfunctioned car, 2004 Grand Prix

Well, I guess after 4 years and 65,000 miles of nothing but oil filters, air filters, a fuel filter, a trans flush, set of tires, and set of frount pads, somethings gonna be a pain eventually...

Moms 2004 Grand Prix has some HVAC problems. The problem is, it's stuck on hot setting. It doesnt matter if you press the AC on button, the recitulat button, or the position of the tempature selector, it still blows hot air.

We've had some wicked bad winter days, so bad my tracker would NOT start, and her GP cranked very slowly then fired over like nothing... It was really sunny, but very cold out, and we had to pick my sister up from deluth... We turned it on cool, and it worked... It was left on cool, and overnight it was left on cool also. In the morning it got cranked to heat, and we havent used the cool air since then...

But now it doesnt work. I cant hear anything moving when I change the selector from cool to hot, but I dont know if it did before anyway.

Can someone help? It's getting warmer out, and moms job really cant have her show up sweaty, or with messed up hair from having the window open. We cant exactly afford a new car to replace this one, or a mechanic bill of $600... and yeah it's just gotta get fixed by me. I need help, can someone assist with diagnosis? I've ordered a Chilton's dvd.

Any ideas

Did you cycle the AC at all during the winter? I remember we always had to do that so it would work in the summer.

oh wait.. so you did, recently.

I want to guess the ACC is all servo activated... possibly a bum servo?

Could the hose to the hot water valve going to the heater have come off or the valve is stuck?

On some cars, the temp adjust knob controls the flow of water through the heater core, thereby regulating the temperature of the heater core itself. On other vehicles, particularly newer models, the knob controls a blend door that determines the degree of airflow that passes through the always-hot heater core.

Do all other HVAC controls work properly? When you work the mode control can you shift airflow around the defroster/floor/dashboard ducts?

Yes, that still works. It puts the air where you tell it too, but just not at the correct temperature.

It's not low on antifreeze, so I assume the heater lines are connected still.

It uses a blend door acuator, I'm thinking it's the problem, but I dunno.

Found a new one on ebay for $20, but I get to disassemble the interior to get at it... yuck...
