D.O. vs M.D.

What are your feelings about going to a D.O. vs going to an M.D.?

a who vs a what?

Today there is not much of a difference.

My oldest daughter is a DO. I like the idea that they are traiined to consider more than soluitons involving drugs and surgery.

That is my idea of how to do things too.

My primary Doc is a DO. Hes like 70+years old and a true old-school physician. I like the fact that the DO adds a little more dimension to his thinking. Cool dude and a lifelong sailor, whats not to like? RT

I'd rather go to an MD. I'm not big into the complementary medicine thingy part of their training. Only one person overrides my MD. My Personal NP

It's all about the person, not the degree.

Actually -
It’s all about who can sign-off my Form 8500- FAA first class medical certificate.

How so? In WI, the MD has the same prescriptive authority as an NP. However, their training is totally different. The way they look at things are going to be different. So, if you feel more comfortable with the NP way of doing things, you see the NP. Similarly, if you feel more comfortable with the DO way of doing things, you see the DO. In my case, I feel more comfortable with the MD way.

Wouldn't that depend on the state you are in or the FAA

There is a lot of truth in this but a person never escapes the training they recieve in many details and concepts.

They have to be an FAA certified Aviation Medical Examiner (AME).

Some are DOs. Most are MDs.

Mine is an MD. I much prefer MDs over DOs with anything regarding my health. We deal with a lot of NPs as well.

Why? How do you fly the friendly skies without being inebriated?
