Horrible grammer on the forum lately...

I know its like the pot calling the kettle black.:D But I am talking about messages I can barely read. They look like a text message.

I can understand if English isn't your first language, but thats not that case with everyone. I see some posts on the diesel forum that have zero punctuation and no capital letters. Punctuation is nice...

That'd be "grammar," right? Just givin' you a hard time!

Skippy 03-24-2008 10:59 PM

I've noticed the same thing. Poor grammar, lack of capitalization and punctuation, poor spelling, incorrect terminology, and lack of structure make posts very difficult to read. When this is pointed out to some posters, they tend to get defensive about it.

I was trying to make a point...:D:P

In all seriousness, you're right. Take a look at the recent comments in DaveStLouis' "rude young people..." thread. It is pretty distracting when the grammar or typos are too common... not that I haven't submitted my fair share of butterfingered replies.

At Least Nobody Shouts Around Here!!!!!!!! <<--- Edit: That's because the forum software cleverly limits all caps to only the first letter of each word.:o

Looking at it from another POV : What moderators talk about.

This very thing is discussed on a Moderator's forum that I belong to.

Long time Moderators are very aware of it, they know having it pointed out IN A THREAD is like getting your fingers rapped by the teacher in class, and people don't like it to happen to them.

(Not to mention, it throws the threads off topic when done publicly)

Some of the Mods like to PM the offenders, to get them to fix it.

In Moderator - land, it is acceptable also for the moderators to edit the posts WITHOUT NOTICE to the posters, to make it more readable.

That can happen ESPECIALLY if the poster is told once or twice, and ignores the Moderator's suggestion to fix it, or becomes defensive, hostile or abusive.

It needs to be remembered, in the end, the Moderator has the POWER, and at times, while it might be personally distasteful to him, he can and will use it, sometimes, to get things in line and conform to the TOU.

Common courtesy requires posters to take a few extra sentences to make their posts understandable. IMHO.

Actually, the theory goes, folks who learn English as a second language tend to be more meticulous about their use of language, including proper grammar and accurate syntax.

Otherwise yo no se wah joo talking 'bout. :D

..........that only works if the Moderator can write better than the natives.;)
