1984 230CE Cold Feet-should I Purchase
Recently took a day trip to check out Mercedes 230CE/1984 coupe , gas powered / automatic, for sale , imported privately in 2000 by a fellow in the Canadian Military from Germany-is a 4 cylinder gas / automatic- beautiful car - in showroom condition -stored indoors /under tarp.Took for a test drive , drives/handles beautrifully. Not many options-power sunroof-no air and crank windows-thats ok with me.
I gave down payment to pick up/hold -would pick up in better weather-we are talking snow/salt / northern Canada here. My question here is - is this a reliable- ok car to purchase? -any known faults? - most concerned with the engine. Would use as a "sunny Sunday driver" stored indoors . P.S. I think I caught the "BENZ BUG" IS THERE A CURE? THANKS |

The 230 engine is a very nice engine. Has about the same power as the turbo diesel. If the car has little to no rust and it does not cost an arm and a leg, you can't go wrong. Post pics.

My first real Benz was a gas-powered W123 coupe like that, but with the 6-cyl. M110 motor. Dark blue, palomino interior, power windows and air, but otherwise much like yours. Mine was tight, nimble, and loads of fun to drive.
I've read about 230CE models in the British "Mercedes Enthusiast" magazine; apparently they were and are quite popular in places like Singapore. If the lack of air conditioning doesn't bother you, it should be a wonderful car. .

Go ahead buy it, besides with this Forum you can fix anything from stone spalling on the side of your house, broken hearts and of course Mercedes benz auto mobiles.
