'06 Jetta TDI "trunk open" sensor

Does anyone happen to know where the sensor is located? Our's has taken to telling the system the trunk is open which prevents it from being opened unless I use the key.

Trying to figure out where to start diggin' .

This is absolutely unresponsive to your post, but it reminded me of a fraternity brother that had a brand new Jetta (in the early 90s) that was plagued with electrical problems. The radio reset itself so many times, he just gave up on it. One day, he and I and two girls were riding around in his car, and the girl in the back with me asked what the letters SAF displayed on the radio face stood for to which my buddy replied, "**** Ain't Functioning"

Not yet.

Posted here out of lazyness... er... cause of the wealth of info here.

I may have to try there if I don't find it.

I've found this car to be a real PIA to work on. Nice car other than that and the sleeze bag VW dealers in the area.

Check the latch itself. Some vehicles incorporate door or trunk light/ajar sensors there. They tend to get dirty and often create the issue you are experiencing.

Your trunk has a keyhole? Where?

On my cars, the "trunk open sensor" is the inability to see out the rear view mirror and the doppler effect sound of my stuff falling out on the road.

If there is a switch, it would almost certainly have to be in the lid, along with the latching mechanism.

Damn thing wont open if it "thinks" its in an open state. Key works but its a real PIA due to its location above the license plate. Key goes in vertically and the hole is impossible to see unless you bend down.

Like most 'new' cars this car has its share of coverings. I figure the switch is either in the lid or the lower, fixed part of the latch. Both will involve digging.

Maybe this weekend...

I looked several times, and there is no keyhole on the trunklid that I have access to.
Maybe they got rid of it? (It was built in 12/06)

The keyhole is located jsut to the right of the right most license plate light.
You have to get down and look up above the plate. Key goes in vertically.

The other beef I have with the Jetta is poor visability. I have a tough time backing up and have noticed other blind spots. Nothing like a W126.

That will suck when the "trunk open" sensor fails.

With the trunk open I flipped the (plastic) latch to the lock position several times and noticed the dash display showed it to be closed. So, the switch must be in the lid. Damn covers... can't see any retaining screws, guess I'll start prying.

I looked at the covering too, when you first posted....was going to try and see where the contact switch might be....decided it would be in the lid at that time. I did notice a little flap on each side to make the changing of bulbs easier - at least a little thought went into the design.
Do they have pictorials on the tdi forum? This might be a good one to post there.
