Did my own taxes for the first time!

And I'm wondering to myself why I didn't do this sooner and saving myself the expense of paying someone to do it! The past years I've told myself that I will do my taxes but procrastination, laziness, and my lack of desire to learn or is it my irresponsibility made me put them off and eventually have a professional do them for me. Well, this year I made the effort and actually looked at the forms closely and said what they hey, have I been paying someone to fill in numbers all these years when I could have done that myself! The forms are nothing compared to college-related forms I've been filling in the past. Pffft, they were a lot shorter and quite simple for my filing status. If I could fill out scholarship, grant, and loan forms, I don't know why I thought I couldn't fill out tax forms. Anyhow, what I learned is that tax forms are short (one page for federal and two for state), and by doing it myself I found out that I could claim some more money by filling out the EIC section, which my accountant (oooh, I feel important by saying that, but I don't make that much to have my own) never bothered to fill out or even go over with me. Having learned that, I'm a bit irked knowing that I paid her to do what I now know to be a simple tax form in which she just plugged in numbers in her computer and generated a copy for me. It was quick and in my ignorance I thought it was amazingly quick for what I thought to be a very complicated procedure, which I was paying her top money to do. Oh well, I'm glad I did my own taxes and learned a bit about the process.
