Job change...Plus a life lesson...
 

Well you know the old saying that you should listen to your parents, because they are smarter than you and have been there before? Well I have learned that sometimes its true!:eek::D;)

Anyway I thought that I could go to school full time (5 classes), sell real estate full time, and to fund the RE until it paid for itself by working another job part time. Surprisingly that created some problems, namely lack of time to study or do important things like make sales calls and do open houses. Also a little burn out and in general doing everything poorly. Throw in a slower market which slowed sales and forced me to keep that job much longer than I thought I would, which killed me.

I have learned that I am not superman, and cannot work crazy hours for months on end. So my dad was correct, he wanted me to wait until I was out of school. So I tried to do everything, spread myself to thin, and screwed it all up. Luckly my grades are still good.

So its time for a change, and school is the first priority. I can't do jack until I am done with it. I can sell RE in the summer and build up a good head of steam, but as soon as summer ends I fall flat on my face.

I'm out of RE sales for a year. In the spring of 09 when I get out of school I will go back in, full time 50-60 hours a week, what that business needs and demands.

I am also going to quit my part time job which I deeply hate and always puts me in a foul mood. In the mean time my uncle has a ton of landscaping work I can do and he pays REALLY well, so I guess I will get in shape for summer which will help with the ladies.:D:cool: Now I need to get a new job, something that will work with school and pay me well enough to survive until its over. A reasonable job like I gave up when I quit the marina.:D

As an unexpected bonus this move will make it far simpler to steal building lots. Being an agent and trying to get stuff way below market value can cause problems. Looking at 4 more this week. Now I can just be a small local builder, "oh the market really sucks, I can't give you anything more than $50k for this lot the market is really bad":D:D:D I should have kept the Jetta, perfect car for this.:D

The moral is, listen to your parents, once in awhile they know something!

I remember when I felt I could do it all too.

My Dad taught me that "what you learn swinging a cat around by it's tail you can learn no other way". Experience keeps a dear school.

You can work for Lowe's or Home Depot part time in the evenings. This would be a great way to meet contractors and you would get even more first hand knowledge of many different building materials.

I know at the Lowe's store I work at, we have lots of part timers who are college students, there are actually even a full timers who are college students, and they just have a set schedule that works around their class schedules...

College age folks don't realize what a great opportunity they have to focus on school. It will never happen again in your life that you have a chance for your living costs to be covered and you can concentrate on learning.

I tried the same thing, working 40+ hours a week and going to Electrical Eng. school. I almost flunked out, but recovered. Live within your means for the few years, then focus on work and fun.

Good luck Hatty, you have shown the motivation to do well in whatever you choose. Just focus your choices on realistic goals.

Lowe's certainly is an option. Don't they pay like $10-$12 for part timers?

If so I could work 20-25 a week during school, which would give me $200-$300. Plently for fuel, fun, and saving.

The problem is I want an E63 now.:D

If you have the experience, I think you could get the $10-$12.

Sheesh. Be honest now cummon. You can't party hard, work full time, and get good grades.

I do that at publix... 32 hours a week, I have tons of regulars that know me by name outside of uniform and I know them by name and car type. I work in all of the depts so I get to meet every customer... I have a high B average and barely any free time except on tuesdays and sundays when I am done with any homework. Homework and study time is priority

Shoot, I'm in my 40's, I have worked in excess of 80 hours a week at 2 jobs for the last 10+ years...kids in college, etc gets expensive. When I get home from work I clean the kitchen, chase kids around, run a load of laundry and fall into bed by midnight...get up at 6 and do it all over again. I generally work 6 full 12+ hour days and 1/2 day on Sunday. Enjoy your freedom while you have it...you won't get it back until the kids grow up and move out...then you die.

I thought I'd get in shape too when I was working at a golf course. It was a 6am to 2pm job, heavy lifting, shoveling, raking, etc. I was probably burning 2500 calories a day. The problem is once I got home I was starving so I think I offset it with all the food I'd eat :)

Really hellish job during the hot summer.

I don't party that hard because I'm broke, and my grades are so so. Going away to CA than to FL was a PITA however.

Oceanography is like a BS high school repeat, B or A, I think A- right now. Damn state schools.:rolleyes: I refuse to crack the book with that course and put an once of effort into it, as a protest to the state for making me take a course I already took in HS.
Math I screwed up so I dropped it and will have to retake it this summer.
Marketing is all BS, literally, B or A.
Music is more BS B or A.

Everything but marketing makes up the last of the gen ed classes I need, one more year and I am done.

What math course? Im taking Stats right now, its an online course. I recommend the online math classes. I hate math so the hardest thing for me is to sit in a math class for 2.5 hours 2 days a week. With the online class you only have to attend a voice conference thing (optional) if you have any questions. Otherwise the program/website you do the homework through helps you a lot through the problems.
