Md-80

American Airlines is really taking a beating with all these hundreds of flight cancellations every day. It seems like they are the only one flyng this particular plane, but that seems unlikely. I haven't seen any news of other airlines having a problem, except Alaska Air. Does AA have MD-80s built to different specs that now make them more vulnerable?

As a matter of fact, he is...maybe he will interject.

From everything I've read, there have been several reported occurrences of nose gears failing to retract in MD-80 aircraft. Supposedly, this was tied to a wiring bundle issue near the landing gear. AA did perfom the maintenance the first time, but apparently not well enough to meet FAA's approval...so now, they are pulling them off line to do it right!

Really sucks for flightgoers, especially in DF/W. My family was set to go out of town this weekend via AA and they just cancelled the outgoing flight!! So we ended up getting Southwest Airlines tickets at the last minute!

I think AA just has more MD-80's than any other airline. They had a gaggle of their own to start with, then they ended up with a bunch more when they bought out TWA.

I kinda like MD-80's.
