Going Green- Artic Meltdown and Mirrors

This morning I was having a conversation with someone about the Artic meltdown that is occurring right now with one of the problems being the polar ice caps reflect the sun's heat back into the atmosphere and without this the atmosphere retains this heat. A possible solution would be to install sections of mirrors to reflect the sun's rays back into the atmosphere much like the ice does. Is this a plausible idea and how would this be done? Who knows the Forum may come up with the answer for this and we might be eligible for the Nobel Peach Prize. I forgot the "c" in arctic.

Didn't Mr. Burns develop a sun deflection device to force Springfield to use more of his nuke energy? Or did it just cast a shadow?

They also did it in Futurama, the giant mirror that was orbiting the earth was struck by a piece of space debris and the angle changed. When that happened it then focused a beam of light on the stadium in which the scientist were holding a convention.

Maybe if we all painted the roofs of our houses with metallic paint.

There is nothing that can be done. What is happening is called "The tail end of the ice age".

Apparently we haven't "tipped" yet so there is a chance we can recover. There was good show on National Geographic last night featuring a scientist who read ice cores in the Arctic and he believes it isn't too late. Albeit this would have been better if we started 20 years ago vs. now.

Why would we want to "recover" when the earth is actually returning to "normal".

Well, you know how arrogant we people of Earth are. We think everything is dependent upon us or that everything that happens is somehow OUR doing.

The earth goes through cycles historically where it cooled and then reheated... Like the previous ice ages, and then the biblical hot periods.

We are at an end of the cooling cycle, and its starting to get hotter. Instead of the earth freezing over and becoming ice, we adapted and made it tolerable... Since the cycle is over, we are hitting the beginning of the heat cycle.
