Does this rebate have to be reported as income next year on your federal taxes? Anybody know? I'm sure it will be for our state taxes.

I should get my "stimulus" loan in mid June.

My wife and I will each get the full amount.

We're gonna spend ours on a new audio system for the S-Class, and new patio furniture.

EDIT: Oh, and my official name for it all is "hush money from President Bush" (as the politicians hope it makes us forget about everything else they've done).

I'm gonna spend mine on the federal income tax (this year we owed a few hundred more than what the rebate is probably gonna be). Instead of sending money back and forth between us and the IRS, it would have been nice to deduct the rebate directly from what we owed.

The Chinese sure have it figured out. They lend our government more money so that the IRS can send us these rebates and we can buy even more Chinese-made crap.

The most contrary thing I can think of to do with the money is buy US Savings Bonds. Not only does it refuse to stimulate the economy, but the income can't be taxed for 30 years. And then the bond can be used for education and not taxed at all.

I disagree with policy that reduces the value of the dollars I have already earned. Intentional dollar devaluation is a cruel hidden tax.

Thats why its a loan. This money isn't free, it didn't come out of thin air. We won't be directly paying it back but we will pay for it through devaluation of the dollar, higher tax rates, higher national debt and higher cost of living.

That's right, and that's why I'm tired of hearing the typical GOP idiocy talk about "tax cuts" which inevitably lead to higher "hidden" taxes unless spending is reigned in as well which usually isn't the case.

Not sure if we get one. It depnds on whether it is figured off total taxes paid, payroll, or net or gross income. I dunno. If I get it, I'm gonna accept it as free eagle ***** and dispose of it.
