Taken from Yahoo news a few minutes ago;
Police: Woman believed to be 'D.C. madam' kills herself
By MITCH STACY, Associated Press Writer 16 minutes ago

A woman police believe to be convicted Washington escort service operator Deborah Jeane Palfrey committed suicide, officials said Thursday.
A body police believe to be that of Deborah Jeane Palfrey was found in a shed near her mother's home Thursday morning in Tarpon Springs, about 20 miles northwest of Tampa. There was a suicide note, but police did not disclose its contents or how she killed herself.
Police said they were trying to confirm the woman's identity, and declined to release more details until a news conference Thursday afternoon.
That didn't stop people from reacting to her death.
"This is a tragic news and my heart goes out to her mother," defense attorney Preston Burton said.
Montgomery Blair Sibley, who served for a time as Palfrey's civil attorney, said he was shocked. "I'm personally devastated by this. All I can do is mourn the tragic loss of her life," he said.
A man who answered a phone listed for Palfrey's mother declined to comment. Officers were outside the mother's white and pink home in the community of mostly retirees.
Prosecutors were trying to find out if Palfrey was dead.
"Although we're aware of the media reports, we're still waiting for confirmation from law enforcement authorities," said Channing Phillips, a spokesman for the District of Columbia U.S. attorney's office, which spent years investigating and prosecuting Palfrey.
[U][B]Palfrey was convicted April 15 by a federal jury of running a prostitution service that catered to members of Washington's political elite, including Sen. David Vitter, a Louisiana Republican.
She had denied her escort service engaged in prostitution, saying that if any of the women engaged in sex acts for money, they did so without her knowledge.
She was convicted of money laundering, using the mail for illegal purposes and racketeering. But her trial concluded without revealing many new details about the service or its clients. Vitter was among possible witnesses, but did not take the stand.
Palfrey faced a maximum of 55 years in prison and was free pending her sentencing July 24.
"I am sure as heck am not going to be going to federal prison for one day, let alone, you know, four to eight years here, because I'm shy about bringing in the deputy secretary of whatever," Palfrey told ABC last year when she released phone records that revealed some of her clients. "Not for a second. I'll bring every last one of them in if necessary."
Prosecutors said Palfrey operated the prostitution service for 13 years.
Vitter, a first-term senator who is married and has four children, has acknowledged being involved with Palfrey's escort service and has apologized for what he called a "very serious sin." But he avoided commenting further.
One of the escort service employees was former University of Maryland, Baltimore County, professor Brandy Britton, who was arrested on prostitution charges in 2006. She committed suicide in January before she was scheduled to go to trial.
Last year, Palfrey said she, too, was humiliated by her prostitution charges, but said: "I guess I'm made of something that Brandy Britton wasn't made of."

Assuming it is her; and 'poof' she's gone, forget murder inc. -it puts a whole new spin on witness relocation, wow...

Now that you mention it, I thought it was alittle odd that the body was found in the shed....i think further investigation is necessary.....

In spite of all the publicity, this doesn't seem like the kind of thing that would drive someone to suicide.

This is a patently false statement because there is no federal statute that prohibits prostitution. It's a state issue.

So, when the Feds decide to stick their noses in such behavior, they need to invent other crimes and find a way to indict the individual for far more serious issues that are difficult, if not impossible to prove:

The benefit to the Feds is that they bring the "prostitution" into the trial, in similar manner to the way this individual brought it into this article, and the jury is not capable of separating the Federal crimes from the crime of prostitution.

The Feds manage to obtain a conviction and get a long prison term for a crime that the person did not commit.

It's a sad state of affairs when the Federal government can indict and convict a person for a state crime.

I believe this is how a lot of the Klansmen from the sixties were finally brought to justice, wasn't it? Still, it's scarey to see the law used this way.

a la Mississippi Burning. (great flick btw)

I caught on the news last night that she had told someone (a reporter or an editor?) that she'd committ suicide before going to jail. The name of the person she told didn't ring a bell with me.(but that's not saying much!)

Don't forget Kenny-boy Lay. IMO, he punched his own ticket. Couldn't face jail.
...and how many cops do you hear about who take one rather than going to trial and facing jail.

Conspiracy here...I don't buy it. Not yet. Easier ways to get rid of her than hanging her in a shed.
Suicide's becoming more & more common...and accepted (shrugged off)... in this country, which, imo, is a sad state of affairs.
