DMV Nazi censors denied Vanity License Plate request.

May 2, 2008

Dear Mr. Jim B:

Your request for the purchase of the environmental license plate described above has been received in our office and reviewed.

Unfortunately, we are unable to approve the requested license plate configuration for the following reason(s):

1. California Vehicle Code, section 5105(a) we must refuse any configuration which carries connotations offensive to good taste and decency or which may be misleading to some of our citizens.

If you have any questions, please call 1-800-CRYBABY

**********************

OMG!! WTF? LOL!!!

"Offensive" to "Good taste" and "Decency" to who? A bunch of freakin' sexual hysterics and California Nazi DMV censors???!!!

Exactly what is "MISLEADING" about a license plate like that on a Mercedes Benz?

Shome mishtake shurely.

Well, just my $.02, but if I saw that plate on that car, I'd think the owner was at best lacking in taste, at worst an adolescent j/o.
But, hey, I'm not the Fuhrer of Good Taste.

I have several m/c helmets pastered with stickers. The simple test I always used was would I be embarrased with one if my mother or daughters thought it was crude or embarrasing to them. Works for me.

Was it Justice Brennan or Stewart who said that he counld't define pornography, but he knew it when he saw it?
Good taste. Elusive concept.
Again, just my $.02.

In the interest of full disclosure, my plate on the 124C:

Jim, if you did the whole plate together, minus the space it could simply be BMWSUK or BMWS United Kingdom....

The person who reviews those probably owns a BMW.

IMHO that plate is in poor taste for anyone who isn't in high school.

Is C126 already taken? What about M117 RLZ, or something like that?

And I'd guess you would be right.

For the first time in my life I agree with a decision made by a California bureaucrat.

Really, what's the point of insulting someone else's car? Does it make you feel superior? Your basically asking someone to vandalized your car.

I saw a pretty looking woman once, in a pretty looking white SLK. Her plate said 'WHY BMW'.
Big difference ...

I think Jim's idea for a 6 letter personal plate in said configuration is not bad one, but I also agree that there is a high risk of backfiring.

But that's only hypothetical, since the DMV Nazis already moved it out of the question.

I would veto the request based only on lack of creativity. How about this suggestion "IH8BMW"
