Whiskey's for drinkin', water's for fightin'
Possible drought looms in California, near term shortages certain:
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/05/02/MN9O10F8PK.DTL&hw=water&sn=002&sc=923 http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/05/02/MNRK10DPD6.DTL&hw=water&sn=003&sc=593 From the second link: State officials warned Thursday that widespread water rationing is a very real possibility this summer. Another few years like this, experts say, and we might start running drastically short of water. And that's just if the water demand stays the same - which it won't. California is projected to gain 12 million residents by 2030, enough to consume annually three times the water stored in Pardee Reservoir, the East Bay Municipal Utility District's linchpin 40 miles southeast of Sacramento. That's the kind of water drain that no low-flow toilets or recycling systems can offset.

That would be bad for us. The survivors would all move to Texas.

Thats true, but I'm far enough away not to care. You will notice a huge explosion of trendy places and Starbucks, and a massive influx of SUV's with big wheels! This new fangled CA thing, heck the house down the street from me is older than that state!

They are already pretty stringent over there regarding conservation. But you can't squeeze blood from a rock, somethings gotta give. What's the least amount of water someone can live on? A gallon a day? Maybe water will get as expensive as gas!

Then we will have endless water threads that go "What is water doing in your area?", "How much are you paying for water?" and "Big Water is raping us", etc, etc.

No that would be "screw me." The contribution Cal. makes to the US economy is huge. And this is just part of the ongoing drought in the west.
It will affect everyone in this country. The richest farmland in the world is in Cal's central valley, and if the water does last, it's going to be covered with suburbia within 100 years anyway. Oh yeah, the future's rosy . . . .

Wahll, if'n you recall, my Daddy's people hail from the Lordsburg, NM/Duncan, AZ region -- my dad told me that the land was so sparse it would only support 4 or 5 head per section (625 acres for the rest of ya'all), and I grew up in Roswell.
I dunno, not sure if my 'real close to albino' bod could take Texas too well.

Again, we'd lose a lot of illegals so it might be a push. You think you are going to live for 100 years more? Without suspended animation or some artificial means, I have $50000 to your $100 you won't live 100 more years.
