Turn Signals

What inspires some people to use turn signals, and what inspires other people not to?

Nowadays, its tough to use the turn signal when you are holding a cell phone with your left hand. Many people feel the phone call is more important than safe/proper/courteous driving.

I've seen that deficiency way before the advent of common cell phone use. Some people just seem to have an aversion to signaling their intentions to the drivers around them.

They should be dragged out of their cars and gunned down like dogs on the side of the road . . . .

I generally forgo them when trying to merge into traffic since they just seem to be a signal to the a-holes to speed up so you don't get in front of them.

That DOES seem to be the case pretty often, doesn't it? As though it will make one bit of difference to anybody whether you are in front of them or immediately behind them. Around here, we'll ALL be sitting in a long line on the highway, waiting, waiting, waiting . . . I guess it's some weird competitive thing.

Maybe it's just me and isolated instances, but whenever I've been driving or riding in a car in the mid-West and you come upon a lane ending due to construction or just narrowing the highway drivers seem to fall into line as soon as they see the first sign advising them to do so. Traffic barely slows and everything flows smoothly.

On the East coast it's a race in the left lane to beat everyone to the cut-off, they fly by each other in the lane that's getting merged down only to cut over at the last possible second, slowing and stopping traffic and generally f'in everything up. Every now and then I get the "enforcer" urge when I'm by myself and usually when I'm driving a truck, to straddle two lanes just to drive the offenders apoplectic.

Up here there's no guarantee that would be enough. The pin heads run amok.

We have neighbors and otherwise nice people who routinely don't use turn signals. I don't yell at them but I do sometimes yell at the inconsiderate dumb-assess who I wait for at intersections and then they suddenly turn; it embarrasses my kids.

It is because the cars only come with 1,000 clicks in their turn signals and the people don't want to use them all up, or run out of blinker fluid.

The drivers who don't signal must think they are practising conservation.

Clearly the same thing that inspires some people to vote Republican and others to vote Democrat

What bothers me more than regular citizens not using signals, is that in my observation, almost NO cops except Staties or motorcycle cops use proper signals. For years I anonymously speed dialed police precinct captains with violator squad car #s every time I observed this behavior, which was usually more than once per day. My calls had little to no effect that I could discern

*Yes, I am a little hypocritical given that I am currently online and do enjoy quite a bit of store bought crap comfort, I'm just trying to emphasize other things to my girls, and things such as tv are meted out as a relax/reward thing other than a focal point

Well, Gramps, you're younger than I, but I find Youtube very entertaining. It's amazing what creative stuff people come up with and post there.
