I have no idea and frankly my dear, .... All I have are the facts as presented in the article.

What facts have you got?

I'm surprised they're not Mormon... are they? And they don't live on a compound!

I think I would have the right to be a little skeptical, don't you think? Now if he was a millionaire, perhaps. As a Real Estate Salesman supporting 17 kids, 18th in the oven and planning more to come, aren't you skeptical too

Skeptical? Of course. However, since I have no factual basis for assuming otherwise, I accept the facts as presented. To me, being skeptical doesn't mean I must doubt whatever I see before my eyes, it simply means to be open to other interpretations of facts or additional facts as they come available.

Yes, extreme skepticism is as you describe it and it is an approach to reality that Descartes used to good effect. To me, one must have a mind and discipline as strong and flexible as Descartes to avoid slipping into becoming a cynic, a small step from narcissism.

Doesn't it depend on what "average" is?

They don't appear to be paying Manhattan (or even Honolulu) costs of living. They aren't on welfare, so doesn't that suggest that they know something about family economic management?

That was reported, yes. Did the reporters miss something or decided not to mention the politically incorrect? I don't know. I, OTOH, am skeptical as there is only so far economic management can take you.

I have learned that betting on the goodness of people tends to lead to disappointment and betting against them often leads to being correct. I suppose you could say I am a cynic when it comes to human behavior. However, I am rarely disappointed.

Its not that hard to make $100k a year in my area, most agents fall into that area +/- $25k. Good agents usualy make about $200k-$300k a year, or Platnum club as Re/Max calls it. There were I think 3-4 agents at our office that did over $500k, and one that does over $1M.

In this market its harder but not impossible.

And hence, I tend to bet that he isn't doing it all on his own steam. Might be wrong once in a while but not often.

You can't really blame the parents. It's God who's willing it according to them. Don't know if this means Mr. Duggar is completely absent from the process or not. If he is, then we should crank up the skeptical level a little more.

Those poor kids are being home schooled following Bill Gothard's program. That's the same home schooling curriculum used on the kid who murdered the people at Youth with a Mission in Denver and Haggard's church in Colorado Springs. It's fascism for the home school.

Take a look at the curriculum and tell me if any freedom loving libertarian could tolerate the authoritarianism of Bill Gothard. It drove Matthew Murray nuts according to what he wrote and I can completely understand why anyone with half a brain would resist such nonsense particularly in the teenage years.
