Why is this Puppy Green?
Video New Orleans (WDSU, WLTX) - Ever seen a green puppy? Well, now you have. Officials at an animal shelter in New Orleans say a member of a litter was born green. It's coat looks as if it should have been white, but it has a decidedly verdant tint. All of its brothers and sisters are white or brown. But wait! Before you go thinking this is some sort of unsolved "X-Files" case, it turns out there's a perfectly good explanation for the color. "Sometimes, when a puppy is born, the amniotic fluid mixes with the placenta and dyes the coat of the puppy and it almost always happens to very light colored puppies," says Anna Zorrilla with the Louisiana SPCA. She says the puppy will likely turn white or tan in color in a few weeks. She also says the puppy's health is not affected by the color. “There are not health concerns,” Zorrilla said. “It’s really just a discoloration in the birthing process.” Video here: http://www.wltx.com/FYI/story.aspx?storyid=61832 |
