Messing with a new E350 4matic this weekend!

My friends car went to the dealer Friday for an amazing amount of repairs, but what can you do. Anyway they usualy give out GM loaners like Buick's, yuck. So I said just BS with the service advisor and be like I'm thinking about getting a new one so can I get one of those as a loaner insted. Worked like a charm!:D They gave him a 2008 with 5k miles already on the clock!

Damn that new E class is nice, nicest one I have ever been in. The W123 was to small for me, the W124 isn't bad just kind of dated now, I liked the W210. Its got a few decent options too, Command, 18in wheels, 6 disc in dash CD changer. The cover in the CD changer is SO COOL! Very German they spent way to much time and money designing it. It doesn't have Xenon lights which sucks, cheap SOB's if your paying that much for a car get the better head lights.

Its fast to! We took it out to the clubs last night and as we were leaving I was calling a girl that we were meeting, and he floored it surprised the heck out of me!:D I was like damn and she was wondering what I was talking about. That V6 has to be putting down near 300hp, it pulls better than my uncles 80's vintage Corvette! Not only that it sounds freaken amazing on its cams. Pulls like a MF on the highway to. It doesn't have the low end grunt of the V8 but its got balls.

I really like how MB went back to the knob for the climate control. The new style is looks kind of like the old Euro ones you see in the W123's and W126's.

The lows:
The 4 matic sucks, you only get high teens around town and you can't break the rear lose. Other than that its great, the car is always planted. We got 14.9 last night according to the dash.:D WOT really burns fuel...

They put the window switch's on the doors, which sucks. But at least everything is one touch.

The 18in wheels are loud, I think its the cheap Conti's they put on them though. Those tires suck.

All in all a damn fine car, if I had the cash I'd go buy one right this moment. Just with a diesel, which is exactly what he might do.:D

BTW I thought these cars had a 7spd? AFAIK this thing had a 5 which I really liked.

The refreshed E-Classes do look very attractive. They have about 270 HP which is more than plenty of HP. My dad's Lexus has that much and when I floored it, nothing happened for a second then it squatted down and just took off and kinda left me stunned for a second. Being used to Accords and 300D's do that to you I guess.

I wonder when they're going to do a total redesign though.

The E350 has the 722.9 seven-speed transmission. The E350 4-Matic uses the good old 722.6. :)

Ahh thats why I am confused.

So if I were buying one I would get the 4matic even though I hate it just to get the 722.6.:D

I really don't like that 7 speed.

Does the new 4matic even have locking diffs anymore or is it just an electronic nannybox?

Hatterasguy 05-11-2008 05:39 PM

Don't know, all I know is when you floor it from a standstill you don't get any wheel spin.

Ara T. 05-11-2008 05:41 PM

Kinda like a W123 then.

Hatterasguy 05-11-2008 05:43 PM

LOL

See MB did it 30 years ago with no electronics! They just gave you less HP and you didn't need AWD or traction control!:D

I have an '06 E350 4matic. My commute is 25% city 75% highway. If I try I can average 24 mpg per the OBC. Put your foot in it or pittle around town with the air on and that will quickly evaporate.
