Hot Dog Day
My dad was telling me how in the 1970s his elementary school had fast food days. These were days on which fast food was served at lunch time. Even students who normally went home for lunch opted to stay at school for lunch on these very special days. There was hot dog day, McDonald's day, pizza day, etc. A couple of weeks before these special days the kids would be given an order form on which they could order their lunch, they would fill out the form, enclose the cash, and they were set. On the given day a truck would pull up in front of the school just before noon with all the food for the students who'd ordered.
Did any of you have such days at your schools? My dad is a product of the public school system, I think this was basically a public school thing. |
In the 60s, the definition of "fast food" (at least in my school) was how fast the guy could change the 5-gallon milk boxes in the dispenser while the line backed up waiting for him to "cut-the-tit."
MickeyD's was still that "Sunday noon meal" on the way home from church, only if nothing important broke down during the week and/or there wasn't a Packer Game on the TV... :D |
My town was so small and backward that we didn't even have fast food restaurants until after I was grown. I always liked the "hamburgers" in the school cafeteria. Never could actually determine WHAT they were really made out of, but they were pretty tasty.

We always had to brown bag it but every now and then we could buy our lunch- it cost .35 cents. can anyone tell me where the cents sign is on the key board? I know where it is on a Royal typewriter.

It's no longer required. What in the world could you possible buy for less that a dollar anymore . . . ?

Private schooling 92-94, and yes, we had Taco Bell days once in a great while.

When I was a kid, it seemed like schools made some sort of effort to have a reasonably healthy menu. That doesn't seem to be true anymore.
