close call today
On my way out of one of the schools parking lots i almost lost the front end of my car. Alright so right at the exist there was a large crane in front of me (the ones with 4 rubber wheels and a man lift, i guess cherry picker) well his arm was out in the street a little and he noticed that the cars couldn't go by so he started to back up. well i had about 3 to 4 feet between us. he apparently didn't check his mirrors because i was still able to see him in his mirrors. Well I started to honk my horn like crazy because there was a car behind me, i couldn't back up. He came within 1 inch of the bumper. After his abrupt stop i get out of the car and go look, he gets out and has the priceless look on his face like O-S%!T i just hit a Mercedes. Thank godness he didn't, he had a giant metal bumper that was above mine so we all know what the outcome would have been. And well thats all i have to say about that.

Glad to hear you're okay.
I was driving to work recently when some sort of 30 foot tall hole digging equipment collapsed about 40 feet in front of my 190e as I was getting off a freeway exit. Thank God I had upgraded to 400e brakes. The operator of the drill was alright, the workers scrambled and immediately got the situation under control, properly directing traffic. Had I been a few seconds earlier to work, I would've been crushed. |

A couple weeks ago I was driving home at night and all the sudden I saw something on the road (thank heavens for my H4 upgrade lights!!)...it was a MANHOLE COVER laying in the street! Also present: Open Manholes! The crew working half a mile away had taken out all the covers and left them on the street, with no barrels, cones, or warnings of any kind. Just a dark road with open manholes and huge heavy lids sitting on the street!!! I swerved like crazy and managed to miss everything. (I was super lucky, there was like 5 of them!!) A friend of mine here at work was not so lucky, he went down the same stretch later that night and hit either a cover or an open manhole (he's not sure which) with his Kia Rio....blew out the tire/bent the rim/severely damaged the suspension....had to be towed away.... Insanity! He had swerved to avoid a cover but the rear wheel clipped either the cover or the hole. Its been in the shop for weeks....
What is wrong with those road workers?!

I would have introduced him to your car, Chuck, and told him he was lucky you spared his bumper from damage.
Good deal you're safe. That would have been a real freak accident. You don't even feel anything when you hit something in those big vehicles.
