I am building an electric car so I have the catalytic converter from my 1996 Saturn ready for the scrapyard. I was told it may be worth something because of the platinum in it. Is this true? It may be the original cat ~10 years old.

Yes, platinum is selling for over 2k an ounce. Here in the SF Bay area there is growing
problem with people stealing cat convertors. Call some local recyclers and see what you can get for it, could'nt hurt.

I work in a junkyard. We sell cats for an average of about $100 apiece. Some are worth less, others (Mercedes was mentioned specifically) are worth much more. They are valuable enough that we've had people steal them before.

I just want a car for local in-town errands like getting groceries and taking the kids to school. I would just buy a NEV (glorified golf cart) if I could, but our government in Ontario does not allow them. So my only option is to build one out of a steet legal gas car. I have the car mostly gutted of the gas components. I know a guy who is going to get me the motor and batteries, he's in the forklift business, we are just figuring out what combination of motor and batteries I need

What is your target voltage?

Not sure yet. Maybe 120V, that way I can use ten 12v trojans. (lighter) Maybe 96v using sixteen 6v batteries. I want to use as little batteries as possible as I am hoping to not have to do suspension improvements. I am waiting for advice from my supplier
