Thinking of buying a 98 BMW 323ic
I drove a 98 BMW 323ic last night for sale locally, and got to say I am thinking of buying. 146K and $3600-3700 ballpark. This price is fair for a few cosmetic items needing attention.
Anyone out there have BMW knowledge. I really liked it, and mechanically it checked out good. I did have a "sound" when I first was pulling out on the drive, and it sounded like it came from the engine (if it had front wheel drive I would have described it as that type of noise, but it only happened once, despite the fact I drove the car for about an hour) Anyone own, owned one... Need fast feedback.... I will probably decide today. Thanks, BTW... sadly my 85 300cd will be for sale if I pull the trigger on this Bimmer.

The M52 engine is fairly straighforward and not a maintenance pig. What does this sound "sound like"?

noise
If you ever had a front wheel drive vehicle, it was a transmission/ axle noise (motor noise, not grinding). It went away in about 5 seconds of driving off.
There was quite a bit of heat after my drive, but it was about 80 out, and I was running the A/c, it has a small engine compartment...

run hot
do these engines run hot....
the temp gauge was about in the middle, but a lot of heat when I raised the hood.

power steering
It sound to me like power steering now. It only happens when starting cold, and it goes away after the engine warms up 30 seconds later..
I will do you all a favor and move over to the BMW boards.
