If I was going with Vista 32 or 64 bit I wouldn't go with anything less the 4Gb of memory. It runs beautifully with that much ram
Unfortunately I predict it will be another Windows ME, an orphaned OS from Microsoft.

And there is no way to get it (the pic) to the Hotmail; if there is I apologize.

Also, my 3 month old computer is slow as my win98 machine, in spite of all updates and auto-tuneup/antivirus/antiphishing/high security crap. Spent 5 hours trying to fix the performance issue, making restore points/ changes and other improvements recommended by HP customer service including disabling menu transparency and other things that a dual core 2GB "entertainment" laptop should be able to do while I'm watching a recorded HDTV show. Mind you, I don't "game", gamble, look at porn or do anything that taxes the system.

My advice if you are considering Vista: get the extended warranty, then you can microwave your computer 2 seconds and get a new one. As a last resort, of course (seriously).

Thanks for listening and for any help. Hope this saves someone from VISTA. Get a Mac.
We might have a somewhat similar machine, HP Pavilion DV9260 Entertainment PC, 17 inch monitor dual core, 2G ram, running Vista Ultimate 64 bit. I use Hotmail, Thunderbird, Firefox (with 49 tabs open, yeah I know)all at the same time, and have no problems at all. Yeah, I am also downloading a movie and surf the net concurrently. No problems with Vista whatsoever, the wife's system runs beautifully too with Vista Home, her SONY is slower than mine.
There could be something on that machine that shouldn't be there.

Alex

BTW, memory exceeding about 3GB is wasted in Vista 32 due to the 4GB address limit for a 32-bit OS and the "4 GB down" address hole reserved for devices like video cards.

With the cost of memory these days it really does not matter much except for some boundary cases (ask me how I know).

Yeah I noticed that yesterday. It seems like its using only about 3.4Gb of the 4Gb. But man does it run Vista nicely.
