I have fond memories of bug zappers from childhood at the lake house.
"Every time a bug gets zapped an angel gets its wings" is a joke I remember.

I can't speak to the level of redneckedness nor to the true effectiveness of electric bug zappers (I'm pretty happy with our Mosquito Magnet) but you'd be better served by placing it a distance away from your back porch so you don't draw the flying critters towards your house.

These things seem to zap moths and things like that. Mosquitos are small enough that they can fly through the zapper without touching anything. They are also not attracted by the light. If you have a skeeter problem, get a Mosquito Magnet or one of the other ones that use propane to generate CO2

There is just something satisfying about hearing that zap. And it's always fun to speculate on the size of the bug that made that extended ZZZZZZAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAP sound.

Be a redneck all you want. It don't matter what others opine of you!
I would string bugzappers onto various trees as well, for the stereo effect. Just run the extension cords from tree to tree.

A quick search on Youtube reveals quite a few videos of rednecks touching bug zappers to prove something to the group of redneck observers.
Am I a redneck since I watched the videos and thought they were funny?

I'm not sure where the redneck line is, maybe the Mason-Dixon line? And I've never heard of anyone outside of New England being called a swamp Yankee. Are you in hick territory? We're all in the same category.

For mosquitos go with the co2 generator. Bug zappers do not even work on the females that do the biting. For the other pesky bugs put a light out away from the house up off the ground about 20 ft. and let the bats do their thing!

You only qualify if you own at least 3 baseball caps and a roll of duct tape. Otherwise, you're just a wannabe.

Oh No! I've got about 5 baseball hats but none are the "Trucker" style and they are logo free. I also have multiple rolls of duct tape in different colors.
