The redneck and the Ferrari (no this is not about Howitzer)

A Redneck from Alabama walked into a bank in New York City and asked for the loan officer. He told the loan officer that he was going to Bakersfield on business for two weeks and needed to borrow $5,000 and that he was not a depositor of the bank. The bank officer told him that the bank would need some form of security for the loan, so the Redneck handed over the keys to a new Ferrari. The car was parked on the street in front of the bank. The Redneck produced the title and everything checked out. The loan officer agreed to hold the car as collateral for the loan and apologized for having to charge 12% interest.

Later, t he bank's president and its officers all enjoyed a good laugh at the Redneck from the south for using a $250,000 Ferrari as collateral for a $5,000 loan.

An employee of the bank then drove the Ferrari into the bank's underground garage and parked it.

Two weeks later, the Redneck returned, repaid the $5,000 and the interest of $23.07. The loan officer said, 'Sir, we are very happy to have had your business, and this transaction has worked out very nicely, but we are a little puzzl ed. While you were away, we checked you out and found that you are a multimillionaire. What puzzles us is, why would you bother to borrow $5,000?'

The Alabama Redneck replied, 'Where else in New York City , can I park my car for two weeks for only $23.07 and expect it to be there when I return?'

Ah, the Old Stupid Alabama Rednecks, and his name was Bubba

I'm getting on a plane, ya'll have a good weekend

Good one. I've found that my Southern drawl has served me well in business in dealing with people who look down upon Southerners as a bunch of stupid bumpkins. It's a little bit like dealing with people who don't realize you know their language. They speak freely infront of you in that language, thinking you don't know what they're saying. It's like playing poker with people who's cards you can see.

It is advantageous to have folks underestimate you because of institutionalised stereotypes and perceived inadequacy.

I have more than once encountered folks from Big cities who expect folks in little Lafayette Indiana to be dumb.

Its fun to deal with them.

Don't underestimate

Years ago I started working and moved from the North to booming Aiken, SC, population 20,000. My new office mate and I were sent to Boston to a computer training course. We were deep in the internals of an operating system discussion when the Boston based ( and motor mouth) trainer asked my office mate if he was keeping up. His response was... "I don't talk as fast as you, but I reckon I listen as fast as anyone". He had graduated with a 4.0 in Engineering from Clemson.

You're not counting the 36K people at SRS

Aiken is generally home to at least one of the usually two 10 goal polo players in the US at any given time, and also boasts the oldest golf course in the US
