Traffic Report???????????????

Less...more ...the same????????????????????

Ara T. 05-29-2008 03:16 AM

Pretty much the same over here, gas hasn't gotten expensive enough for people to change really, yet at least.

Traffic is about the same...what I notice is that many folks are leaving the SUVs behind and squeezing into their second cars instead...

Listened to a parent during a soccer practice last night lamenting the fact that his monthly outlay for fuel for the family vehicles exceeded $1000 last month!!

Mine was just over $600!! and I'm generally the sole driver in the household. But all of those 80-mile round trips to weekend soccer ventures take their toll.

past two days traffic has been really bad so I don't think we are getting enough impact yet. Local transit companys (I live in one state and work in another) report increased riders. Gonna have to get to another 10-20 percent of the population before it really helps traffic.

You're not going to get much of change in behavior until folks actually run out of cash. They're not brilliant enough to project this outcome.........as evidenced by the ongoing credit card spending.

When all cards are maxed out.........and there is no more cash in the wallet for food and/or gas.........there will be some reduction, by necessity.

Until that time occurs, it will be a bit here..........a bit there........leave the $hitbox at home.........but the traffic won't be significantly affected.

I was speaking to a fellow who owns a GMC Yukon. Gets 8 mpg..........wants to trade it in.........dealer will give him $5K for it..........it's a 2002 vehicle.

Lots of traffic, no change yet. But I did read an artical in the paper that up the line a bit Metro North is seeing a big surge in commuting traffic. Milford has always had a large population of rail commuters so I havn't noticed a big change since the parking lots are always jammed. But I guess people who live say in Clinton or Guilford are driving to the New Haven or other stations and taking the train insted of driving to say Stamford.

I think gas needs to hit $5 a gallon before you start to see a reduction.

You won't see any significant reduction.

Price is only a problem when the funds are not available. It takes time for that to occur..........might take until the winter.........when the fuel oil spending starts to really hit home.

I know oil is going to kill people. The smart ones I know with oil heat are figuring out what they will spend and are starting to put some of the money away. One even filled his tank up a couple of weeks ago because he figured that it wasn't getting any cheaper.

Our house is gas which right now is cheaper, but not for long!

I'm thinking of converting this house to gas. Equivalent gas price is about $1.90 /gallon. Recent oil price is $4.19/gallon. I don't see gas moving anywhere near oil in the near future.

We do have a stove, and can get all the wood we want for free. But its a PITA to use it since you have to wake up every few hours to fill it up. However it does work very, very well. Also heats hot water.

For once gas is cheaper! My dad isn't minding since it has been reversed since we built this house in 1991.:D

I think gas will move right up, maybe not this winter but certianly by next winter.

automated wood pellet furnace

I've noticed more people actually doing speed limit as well as some lines of cars doing 55 mph on the highway. I of course join the line so to reap the aerodynamic benefits.
