Anyone in Hong Kong?

I'm heading off to Hong Kong in a few hours - staying with a friend who's there with his work. 11 Days and some of that by myself! So thought I'd check out if anyone from here is there! Staying in the mid-levels, should be alright I guess?

Russell

You don't like Mid-levels? Isn't there a mall there, or is that at the top of the Peak?

Check out Pacific Place (underground mall), take a ferry across the harbor, take a ride on the metro, and of course the funicular up to the top of Victoria Peak (yes there is a mall up there too). Stunning view. Also don't forget the Kowloon side - check out Mong Kok, Tsim Sha Tsui, etc. I stayed in Admiralty (HK Island) when I was there. Everything is pretty easy to walk to.

Sorry I caused confusion - the thumbs down and comment was answering my own question "anyone in Hong Kong".

Mid levels is fine, I've enjoyed getting out into the New Territories and South part of Hong Kong Island too.

Currently in an internet cafe in Kowloon, browing the shops which are quite cool.

I've been alone a lot of the time, next time I will check in to a hostel to meet up with people.

That's great. Stay away from Chungking Mansions lol. One thing you can do is go to a Chinese movie, they're fun and really you don't need to understand the language to understand the story most times.
If you go hiking I think that's a good place to meet up with people on the trails, lots of foreigners and you might be able to join a group.
I know HK can seem unfriendly if you don't know anyone there. A lot of the expats over there seem stuck-up for some reason, and unfortunately it's the Australians and English ones that can be the worst. Why don't you contact one of the local car clubs and see if any meetings are scheduled and go to one of their get-togethers.

Don't miss the night cruise around Victoria Bay. It cost less then $20 (2 years ago) and there is/was a laser show as well (between the islands), starting at 8pm.
Brand name shopping also pretty good, for real and/or fake stuff, which ever you are into.

Check out Ned Kelly's Last Stand in Kowloon, a cool pub with cool people.
