CLK 320 cabriolet

Wednesday my mother calls me in a panic. "Can you get off work right now?" I am surprised at first but she goes on to tell me about a friend of hers that lives in Gulfport,Ms and she is needing to sell her CLK 320 Cabriolet by wednesday night. Apparently the woman is going thru a nasty lawsuit with the family of her now deceased husband. She is secretly selling his property before they can get it. I do not know any details. I do not know who is wrong or right. I do not want to know. I do not care. The only thing I was interested in was the great price she was selling the car for. The car was titled in her name but I imagine his money paid for it. We made it from Atlanta to Gulfport in 6 hrs! I was driving my mothers LS400 85mph or better the whole way. Stopped twice. very stiff neck.

We met the lady close to midnight at a gas station. Drove the car, wrote a check, grabbed the title, and shook the ladies hand. She caught a ride home. The car is a 2000 with less than 16k miles. It is the silver with matching interior. It has the same wheels as a 2001, black top, digital startac with voice control(never used) and heated seats. I think it has the rain sensor crap as well. Any way , we head on over to Biloxi and gambles til 2am(lost every dime) slept for 4 hrs and we left to come home at 6am. I am tired.

I drove the 500 miles and 7hrs(this time) back home. Top was down and it was cold at 6am cruising I-10 to Mobile. I ran about 80-90mph and I even saw 110mph over the bridges near Mobile. This car is so amazing! It has to much wizardry for me though. It seems to Japanese with all of the computer functions and electronics. Seems like a lot of stuff to tear up! It is under warranty so MB can pay the tab for a couple of years. Car does have some cowl shake but maybe it just needs a good tire balancing. I do not know. I stopped for gas and food and I had to fight the admirers to get back in the car. I of course acted like it was mine! Got lots of looks from other MB's on the road but I only saw 5. I was so tired when I got home last night from work and my wife was mad because I did not call until I was half way there. Man what a wild trip! Anybody care to guess what she paid for it? I think she got a good deal. Anyone else own one of these? Do they get the shakes at 60mph-70mph?

Later, Joe

What a great adventure!
Lets see, here in California, a 2000 CLK320 Cab. with that kind of mileage will set you back about $50K. Under the circumstances you describe, I'll wager that your Mom got it for, oh, say $35K. And that would be a great deal!

So, what was it?

New they go for 60k! So yes, 50k would be about right. I'm guessing you got it for 40k.

And no, they shouldn't be cowly from 60 on up! I have driven the CLK at speeds of 100 mph plus and was actually amazingly suprised that it handled so well! I didn't think it would. Great car though!

BTW, if you got heated seats and rain sensing wipers, then I'm thinking you should also have XENON. Ours has the pkg of all 3... winter pkg I believe.

I just spent a week in Germany living with a CLK Cabriolet, the majority of it in excess of 110 MPH. Awesome car! And NO cowl shake-sounds like a bad/misbalanced tire.

David, that is a beautiful car you have there! Very nice, and those are the wheels I was talking about as well.

I will carry mothers to my tire guy next week because I guess it is just a tire problem as well. This car has the Goodyears on it. I do not know if that alone just might be the problem.

David and Ashman are real damn close! Just add $3k and you got it! She is waiting for the owners manual though. The lady had misplaced it somehow. She said she found it in her house and she is sending it Monday. The car does have Xenon's so I guess it is loaded. I was surprised to see a digital TDMA Startac in the console! I thought these guys were still putting analog in these things!

All MB from 2000 on would have digital StarTac as the "portable" phone unit, if you get the Phone option...

Does anyone know about the optional wind/anti-buffeting/blocker thingy? I cannot remember it's proper name obviously. Is this something the dealer can add? Cost?

The wind deflector. It comes with the car! Part of it is built in already. You can retract that part down, and store the other part in the trunk.

Does it have a hiding place in the trunk? We did not see it!

David, does your car have the Goodyear RSA tires on it? I saw my tire guy today and he said it was those "sorry tires on it" that was giving it the shakes at 60-70mph. The car is smooth as silk anything above or below that!
Thanks!

Joe

After 2 trips to the dealer for tire balancing, I take the CLK to the tire store today and they inform me 2 of the tires have BROKEN belts!!!!!

What in the hell would cause that if you have not hit anything to encourage rupture?

The other 2 are like new so I just got 2 new Michelin Pilots. Drives like a dream now. I can't believe she waited this long to have me do this

Still for sale. Not trying to hard though. Any interest? Super nice with less than 25k miles

later,

Joe,

Have you found your wind deflector yet? It does have a storage spot in the trunk. It shoud be inside a canvas bag which can velcro attach underneath the soft top storage compartment.

My guess is that if it was there you would have seen it by now, but FWIW...
