That's not that far off from our Yacht Club! The WCYC celebrates 100 years this coming Friday. We've got a big ol' bash planned.

Down these parts we have the Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht Club.My dad was a member and so am I,great networking.

I dunno about DWI's but these captains of industry and media moguls arrive at happy hour and drive home *****-faced 2 hours later.

Never heard of cops pulling them over.

The majority of them, and their names would surprise you, have cars at least 10-20 years old, among which a short, affable cable TV mogul drives a dark blue '82 380 SL.

Lots of people drive drunk. Most people who drive drunk never get caught. My friend from Chile drives drunk every Friday and Saturday night, but most people would never guess he was drunk. He can drink 2 bottles of wine 3 or 4 ports in 4 hours and drive home like it's nobody's business, he doesn't seem drunk but he has to be.

Almost the whole North Shore of Long Island drives drunk after work, the rule of thumb being the older and wealthier you are,the more intoxicated you are.

I'm a member of a little country yacht club too (mainly for the pool and bar--don't keep my boats there but do usually run from the house by boat http://www.mathewsyachtclub.com/), the only anomoly being one member who is the CEO of one of the largest companies in the world, who keeps his 60' Tiffany custom there, and got permission from the board at his own expense, to build a helipad on the property so he could fly to his boat from Richmond.

It must be rough.

We've got about 150 members, about 1/3 are active. It's a working club with a dock and launching/hauling railway for boats up to 30' but most members with larger boats keep them at the shore anyway. It runs the gamut from seed peddler to custodian to electrician to HVAC to lawyer to physician (in no particular order ) and everything in between. It's as much as a social club as anything else. We're just south of Hartford on the CT River so it's a good 2 hr. cruise up from L.I. Sound which is why the real cruisers keep their boats downriver leaving us river rats to run the asylum.

Oh, you'd like this guy--he founded the company from a modest background. Tough guy.

I think ours is probably about the same size. No railway, but a davit launch. Big boats have to put at a large marina close by or sail in from the Atlantic. Probably 30-40 boats docked at any given time. It is in the middle of nowhere, so like your's, there are regular folks that are members there and get good use of it, then a few mega rich that are in it just to support the community near their isolated compounds. The hard core members' kids race dinks, ect... and they have three or four regattas a season. I learned how to swim in the pool and had a lot of summer friends there so I keep it up for sentimental reasons as much as anything. (plus my brother and sister split the tab with me and use the club as my guests--no I wouldn't do that if I used it more than 4-5 times a year)

Yeah thats pretty far up the river. I know someone who almost sank a Bertram 50 up your way a few years ago. Ran it up on the rocks, $50k or so later it was all fixed.
