My NEW favorite Tequila

I just bought a bottle of Patrón Añejo ... smooth and delicious!

My old favorite was Cabo Wabo Resposado. The Patrón Añejo is so smooth you could sip it like a fine single malt scotch.

I made a few margaritas:

3 shots of Patrón Añejo
1 shot of Damiana
1 shot of Cointreau
3 fresh squeezed limes
1 handful of ice

Shake and serve in a salted glass

A delightful match with Stuffed Poblano Peppers and Black Bean Soup.

Oh God, that stuff hurts almost as bad as 151 and Jägermeister!

I have been told that stuff with Corona is amazing and will mess you up super quick. I'll try some tomarrow and report back!

Hard stuff and beer is always a good combo!

Mmm Jagermeister... I thought that stuff goes down very easily. Never tried 151 though, don't really plan on it.

They don't hurt going down ... only the next day if you drank too much because it was SO smooth going down.

I don't hit the bars or clubs anymore, but my brother just told me about "Corona shots".

Take a straw and put it in the bottle, but don't drink from the straw.
The straw is used as a breather tube while you slam the whole bottle of Corona in 2-3 seconds ... like stabbing a hole in the bottom of a can for a shotgun.

Sounds like great stuff.
However, when it comes to drinking margaritas around here, they are consumed in too high a quantity to be spending the money and quality of a real fine tequila on.

We go with the "Jimmy Buffett Special":

IN A SHAKER, MIX THE FOLLOWING:

ICE (BROKEN CUBES)
2 FRESH LIME WEDGES (SQUEEZED)
2 oz. CUERVO-1800
.5 oz. CUERVO WHITE (MORE or LESS FOR BITE)
1.25 oz. ROSES LIME JUICE
.5 oz. BOLS TRIPLE SEC
SPLASH OF BOLS ORANGE CURACOA

SHAKE IT VIGOROUSLY !!

SALT RIM OF GLASS

SQUEEZE INTO GLASS: 1 LIME WEDGE
OVER NEW ICE CUBES

Pour in the goods.
Enjoy !!!

Cheers -
Shelby

(With me doing the solo house sitting duty thing. I think I may just have to raid the bar this afternoon when I'm back down on the ground for the evening.)

They are called loaded coronas. Best to use a lime flavored tequila or rum though, using patron would be a waste of good tequila.

Then again, i think even making margaritas with patron anejo is a waste, unless you like them extremely strong.

Not really a huge fan of tequila personally, but whenever i get it for my liquor cabinet its either patron or another 100% de agave plant tequila. Cabo Wabo reposado is pretty decent though. Mainly a rum and whiskey(be it canadian, bourbon, scotch etc) kinda guy. Oh and beer, but lately beer gives me wicked hangovers, i guess i'm getting old.

"shot of patron, i dont play, no ice, i like my drinks strait not gay"

My friend gets me into all this, I'm pretty much a vodka drinker. Once in awhile I'll do a good rum but its to sweet. I want my drink to tast like a drink, not a soda!

I understand what you are saying about the rums, But for socially drinking i love a double bacardi or captain and coke. Of course in the single glass...i like my drinks strong.

Have you tried a decent scotch? If you are like me and actually like to taste the liquor, then nothing quite hits the spot like a scotch on the rocks. Not the dewar's white label or johnie walker red crap though, at least do the black label or the 20yr dewars. IMO those are the best value, but i'm far from a conessour(spelling?). I hated scotch till i had an older gentlemen at the liquor store i used to work at explain the proper way to taste and drink a good scotch. Then i fell in love....

Yeah Jack and coke, and vodka tonic's are my favorite club drinks.

I was told the best way to drink scotch is with a little water at room temp. I guess the water is supposed to "wake it up".

I just had a martini last evening that was laced with a splash of Patron. Excellent.

My overall favorite drink is straight Vox or Belvedere with an olive. Sometimes I like to wet the glass with vermouth first.

Speaking of Scotch ... I like Glenlivet 18 yr, but my current favorite is a 12 yr. Balvenie doublewood. Very vanilla.
