Mouse traps

Can one successfully reuse a mouse trap? Are mice wary of the scent of their fallen kin?

I would usually re-use mine since I use "no-kill" traps.

I use the "no kill" variety and clean them thoroughly after each use. The snap traps can be re-used if they're not too messy and you can also scrub them with bleach to remove smells. They're actually so cheap, I would just throw them away.

I would think they would be wary that a mouse was there, but how could they know he was slain in instant death? Who knows, maybe they like that smell and it will attract others? I saw an email not too long ago with a mouse dead in a trap and another mouse pleasuring himself on the dead mouse. I think if they will do that, you can re-use the old one.

I just used a glue trap yesterday and had to finish the job with a smack from a shovel this morning. I'm going back to snap traps ... the glue trap seems an unusually cruel and torturous way to go.

We used to use them here in the warehouse before we got a couple of cats. On a strictly business level I hate mice but it was tough seeing them wriggling around on them.

We have mice in our office becase its an office/warehouse. We hired a professional pest control, and they use these traps that they go into, but they never seem to catch any. I'm not sure how they work though. I would use D-CON but I don't have any small children and I would pray they don't die in the wall and smell up the house.

I had some mice in this house.

Getting rid of them took some patience and time........didn't bother me until I realized that the SOB's took out the stove..........ever light up the oven after mice have been in the insulation...........???

If they are the kind our pest service uses, they are just bait boxes ... not an actual trap. I asked the pest control tech. about using the poison/bait and he said they shouldn't die in the house or walls, because the poison dehydrates the mouse and drives it to find water. I've noticed dead mice in my yard a few meters from the house a couple times and the tech said that's where you'll usually find them after they've taken the bait.

I had to redo the insulation in m y attic crawl space above my bedroom ceiling light fixture. The mice pissed all over the insulation and the light fixture so when I'd leave the light on for a few minutes, the room would smell like piss. I guess the mice were looking for heat during the winter and the light offered what they needed.

Peanut butter on a snap trap worked to catch the mice in less than 12 hours. I set the traps before bed and when I checked them in the morning, the traps were all full.

I never had a problem with mice visiting a "used" snap trap; rats are much more cautious and oftentimes won't in my expirience.

I've reused snap-style mousetraps with no trouble. The ones I have employ a thick plastic bar on the "guillotine" portion of the snap, so instead of decapitating the mouse it just breaks the spine at the neck. It isn't messy at all.
