Unhappy Update: My sister's boyfriend isn't going to make it.

I guess it shouldn't come as a surprise after almost two weeks in ICU under sedation, but man...

Plans are to keep him on life support for the next 36 hours to harvest his organs. Open casket wake next Tuesday and then a cremation. His friends plan on bringing his ashes on a tour or America. He and my sister have more good friends than people I even know. The kids just got back from recording a new album in New Orleans about a month ago. They were peas in a pod and had the same zest for life.

We're all just devastated, he was the one for my sister. We've texted some cryptic messages back and forth because I know my phone call would be incoherent. Keep my sister and KC's family in your thoughts and prayers, they're going to need it.

Sorry to hear that as well.

We have a family friend on her death bed at 34 due to colon cancer. Losing someone so young is hard, especially if there are kids.

I'm truly sorry to hear that your sister is having to go through this painful episode at such a young age...

There never seems to be any of the right words, let alone the right amount in these situations...

The best is if you can, try to be there, physically, to lend her your kind warmth and presence...

That may be all that she can handle...and above all, she may want to talk...I learned a long time ago that each situation is VERY different...but funerals seem to be the worst and most ackward of them all...

The best in all of this? Just be available... She'll need you...

Again, my thoughts and prayers will be about you and yours...

Thanks all. Official TOD was 5:34 this morning with my sister and his parents by his side.

I can't help but wonder what crazy urges his organ recipients are going to have. Let's just say he really appreciated life.

The funeral is Wed. in Chicago so I'm going to scamble to get everything in order so I can get out there. My parents said that if my brother and I were going that my father would drive, but it's like 900 miles one way. I'm not sure I want to spend 40 hours driving there and back. Plus I don't want to "waste" too much time, either not with my sister or not with my wife & kids, since I've got to go to Nashville the following week. I'll check the flights to see what they are and go from there.

KC and my sis at the bar after one of their Unofficial Kickball League of Chicago games, wearing their team garb (the Fighting Cocks had pink as their team color).

The other side: KC and my kid #3/son #2

KC's band, Handsome Molly's site. He was lead singer. Their apt description: death country metal and southern rock.

RIP KC Haywood.

I was hopeful when I posted last night....Doctors have been known to be wrong...

When I read your post this morning, I was speechless...I wanted to say something to comfort you, but nothing came out of my head...just emotions of sorrow, empathy and sympathy.
I'm truly sorry for your, and most of all your sister and her family's loss. You all have my heartfelt sympathy.
