I already have a motorcycle...

I look at this way...

When the cab ride gets cheaper than the car ride...then I'll park the car.

When my budget is over a certain percentage for car alone, then the bike comes out and the car will just have to wait for the rainy day...literally...

I'll keep using whatever method that doesn't change the direction of the cash flow in the house...it may slow down a little, but if it reverses direction, even once, the story changes....

My '94 MB E320 returns between 20 and 27mpg, and the '95 BMW R1100R between 40 and 50 mpg. I live just 6 miles form my office, but often travel to other sites during the day. Overall the car is easier, i.e. no helmet, boots, jacket, pants and gloves, but I'm beginning to give the cycle more consideration.
regards,
Mark

Funny you should bring this up. For first time ever, I found myself perusing motorcycles in CL and eBay.

I can get a KZ400 for free, but I think it basically needs every mechanical part replaced. Its a nice looking bike though, and not too fast so I wouldn't kill myself on it.

I get 26city/34highway, a motorcycle is too much of a health risk for too little gain.

A good starter bike and you can't go wrong with free.

I like living too.

Many of my friends have bikes. They always say no matter how safe they ride, there is always the element of the other person.

Thats the thing, on a bike you always lose big time in a crash. My dad just saw a guy on a Harley go sliding through an intersection a few weeks ago. A car ran the light, naturaly the owner of the car wasn't hurt in the least, and if they guy had been in a car he probably would have been fine as well. But he was hurt pretty damn bad.

I've been riding my little scooter around town lately, the Benz has been permanently garaged (I'm flying out to pick up a new one next week). The scooter can't go on highways and the top speed is like 40, but it gets 100mpg, definitely a bit scary when you have a 3000lb mass of metal behind you and your completely exposed... I'm debating on wheater to being it to college with me, its an additional $160 for the parking permit, and I'm not sure if I can ride it to classes or not yet. Maybe I'll weld up a hitch for the new Benz so I can mount a rack to park it on to avoid getting a permit...

Nonsense, you can come out fine in motorcycle crashes especially if you have good gear. My cousin wiped out at 75 mph (hit an oil slick or something) and slid on the ground for god knows how long. Had a few bruises but was fine health-wise. I dont think he rode for a long time after that though

The Good And Bads of Cars and Motocycle

Motorcycle
The good: Save $$$ on gas, low maintance, CHEAP, Very EZ to park, Fun???, good for short commuting

The bad, Cant drive in the rain or snow, every car no matter big or small its a potential injury or even DEATH, cant go very far, weight limit!!!!, and cant pick anything but a buddy, you and small items.

Cars

The good: SAFE, , Can drive in all weather, can carry people and things, NO WEIGHT LIMIT "for passanger" can drive far.

The bad: hard to park "if you bad at it", Consume more gas than a bike, higher maintance...

There is alot of good and bad on both of these subjects...
