Today I put the period at the end of the Cataract work. I picked up my new glasses. I got a clear set and a set of prescription sunglasses with the tint Pilots prefer. They are sortof grey green tint and make orange (like the cones on the autocross course) almost vibrate they are so bright....red cars too. Working good. The middle lense (trifocals) are being used now at the computer screen.

As for moving the office I got some of the custom made sconse light fixtures out of the offices I remodeled about 15 years ago plus a tiffany type fixture to hang over a table. Nice! The contractor who is doing the demo work would not take any money for them though he had some time removing them. I guess I'll take some fresh donuts by for them in the morning.

I'm working on getting my garage space converted into my office/man cave. I have ordered a new computer and am getting the wire for it run. My new all glass panel garage door is in at Menards. I have to get the guy who is going to install it for me to get going on it. I also plan to install an hvac split system to heat and cool the three individual areas of my garage. It will be nice to be able to get it all up to a comfortable temp to work on something.

Now that I have time to do car hobby things my physical capabilities are more limited in agility and endurance so I'll have my best garage ever and will seldom use it.

I have decided to get rid of most of the stuff I have stored in a room in my basement and use it for all my professional records and drawings for thirty years of work....about 300 jobs in all....many are pretty small but it all adds up to a sizable pile. I have thrown away nearly all my prints and am keeping all my original drawings, though they are unlikely to be useful very often in the future.

Life goes on.

Today worked on moving my office. I have to be out of the old one end of day monday. I am tossing all financial and tax records more than 10 years old. Most of the Architecturally related things I am keeping. I should have all the stuff out tomorrow except for my 4 x 8' table which I need help to move on Monday.

It is fun to look at stuff that is 20 years old and bittersweet. It was all so important back when it was in progress, now it is pretty much worthless.

It will be good to get the move done.

Yes, I find you just have more and more stuff around that you will never use or have any need for in the remainder of ones life. As time goes by. I could use the room that is full of the filling cabinets or just use the space they consume. It just never seems to get done though. I have to go through my book accumulation and serious thin it out. There is a formula of how to dump stuff. It has to deal with frequency of use.

It is considered a disease of the middle class. Taken to extremes all the stuff we own really tends to own us. In a way it is also selfish in that someone or other will have to deal with it when we depart. At least you do not take it with you though. I suppose that is a benefit.

Building more storage was no solution. The first time I went and purchased something that I already had in storage but forgot did it for me. More storage was just not the answer. The more you own the more you get to keep up or replace. I do not feel like a gerbil running on one of those endless wheels. Yet still close enough to understand them. In the course of an average week I get to repair something or other. Prior conditioning unless really needed. Means little to nothing gets farmed out.

I wanted a very large tool chest reciently . Until I took a hard look at reality. I will not be around that much longer. I know my roll around tool chests are full. Logically I can thin them down instead perhaps. I have gotten better at just throwing stuff out fortunatly. I need to get even better. Although I preffer to give that stuff to people that can use it. Part of it is just the mindset.

I found a slightly bent wheel on the wives car from it sliding off the road a week ago. It was missed by the firm that I had do the repairs on her car. The tire shop could not get the low pressure device off of the old rim. I was there and they did not have a certain tool. So the bent rim comes home so I can remove the sensor. Rather than just throw the bent rim and pressure sensor out and go buy a new sensor for the new rim. I just do not know about myself at times.

I started transitioning to paperless three or four years ago when I bought an HP all-in-one printer and the Adobe Acrobat software to make pdf copies. I've made a digital copy of almost every piece of paper I want to keep and have tossed away the paper unless I really need it. It's amazing how much space I have now, and I have not needed any of the paper copies I destroyed.

That's good but I have enough to fill a small box truck. I'd die before getting it all copied!

Talking TOO MUCH STUFF !

I'm more of a pack rat than gerbil I *think* but the simile is apt I think .

I have three rollaways full of tools plus more stashed here there and every where, I'm sure my son will never want my vintage Mechanic's tools if he even knows what they are .

I don't keep many non tech books, I have shop and owners manuals going back to the 1920's, had to part with as I used them for decades .

The rule is : if you've not used a thing for 12 months / 1 year, get rid of it .

That'll be a good thing in a few years when I can no longer work on the various jalopies and Motos I have....

Agreed, the stuff more owns me than I it these dayze .

For the most part I like looking at / fondling it , even the stuff I don't use anymore .

I don't want my son to be burdened with it all, i've told him just raze the house (it's termite infested and B.E.R.) , either build a new one or sell the bare lot, it's in town so should bring very good $ .

Time marches on .

PDF's are terrific ! one can print out the pages necessary for ny job and take them out to the job and scribble crib notes all over them then discard when finished .

However ! one glitch on the electronic box and *poof* they're gone forever, I already lost some irreplaceable photos and music that way .

Yeah, stuff. I have tended to fill up any space I have with stuff. I had a lot of mb parts that I just tossed in a part of this move. I have thousands dollars worth of parts still I suppose and keep thinking when things get simpler I'll put it all up on ebay or some such and sell it off.

So far that day has not come.

Rat-packery creeps in. Good Lord I have trouble with that. I'll save some doo-dad for years, stumble over it many times when looking for something else, and then when I actually could use it, can't find it. Drives me bonkers.

Still moving things around between the new office space, the rearranged basement space and the dumpster. I have gotten to putting pictures up on the walls and books and such on the shelves.

I'm also trying to bring the computer online out there and my printer. I have an odd parallelogram table left over from when I had a parallelogram conference room. I love the oddball table but am not sure how well it will work for me in the new smallish rectangular space.

What is wrong today? I removed an old four foot two tube fixture from the box above a vanity yesterday in one of our bathrooms. . Pile of reasons to do this.

Replaced with led single bulbs. I knew the light distribution would not be as good through the egg crate grill. What bothered me was the amount of hand tools that were needed just for such a simple job. All two hands could hold. Almost pathetic.
