Any Fun way to handle Telemarketing Calls

Being a business, we get a bunch of those calls. AFAIK, in WI, the "no call list" extends to residential customers only. So, being asked to be taken off is not really working. They seem to come with different numbers each time. We cannot afford not to answer the phone.

In the lull time, I have been answering them and then dragging them on with their sales pitch and questions finally to inform them that I am not intersted. They waste my time, I waste theirs. If we are busy, I hang up. If not I have fun with them and they get pissed.

What other fun things do people do?

I just blow them off but if the time is available - enjoy. Selling Pictures I am a photographer, Siding I am a GC, Dance Lessons I am disabled, I don't have a credit card beacuse I just got out of jail, etc, etc. My favorite line is to tell them I am busy but would like to talk with them and could I have their home phone number. They always decline and then I pounce with my last line before hanging up - "What you don't like to be bothered when you are at home?"

If you have multiple phone lines, you can always just say, "Hold, please," put them on hold, and never pick up again until that light goes out.

well i just recently got into selling Cutco Cutlery and i have to call people all day long. Well the customer calls first so they expect me, but one time i must have had the wrong number and the guy answered and just went off on me cursing and saying all types of things. So i guess that is one way to deal with it.

You could answer them using a soundboard

Yea, just say "I'm interested!" and put the phone down. Let them continue their speech as long as they want untill they realize you aren't there...
Those telemarketers absolutely hate to have their time wasted.

WASTE THEIR TIME!

Jerry: I can’t talk right now. Why don’t you give me your home number, and I’ll call you back later.

Telemarketer: I’m afraid we can’t do that.

Jerry: Oh, I guess you don’t want people calling you and bugging you at home.

They work on commission. More calls = more sales. Less calls = less sales = less $. If you waste their time, it's money out of their pocket. That's a good thing. They might not call back...

Opt-Out.

I have told everyone that calls me trying to sell something that I want to Opt Out, and it has reduced the number of spamming calls drastically.

I particularly love when I get the extended warranty sales calls. I let them go thru their whole sales schtic. "Johnny, do you know what I do for a living ? No,sir. I work in the service department of a car dealership. Then you know the importance of having a warranty !! I also know what I can't fix myself, one of 2 dozen techs can fix for me. BUH BYE....."

Tried it

Hasn't worked yet. If it did, I wouldn't bother with this.
