CUCV (Blazer & trucks) are pretty grim, though easy enough to get parts for.
6.2 diesel is not that bad of an engine, as long as you don't expect a lot out of it. Wouldn't mind a 1002(?) pickup to move hay around the place with. All the ones I was ever in had rifle holders too. great place for the Bushmaster M880 (Dodge) was pretty ok, though most of those have gone to truck heaven. |

When I lived in Homer, NY, there was a guy in town who bought several Government surplus vehicles.
He had a tank, I think it was a Sherman, a Korean War era jeep with an artillery piece mounted on a trailer, and a Korean War era M35 duece and a half. He was happy as a clam with all of them.

Yes , designed a new version. There was an early one made by a MN outfit called glasstite--they just had the bolts going in around the window on the outside-easy to steal. Mine bolt in from the inside so no-one can nik it while you are playing mario bro's. Tell the square body guys about me/it. But dont tell them they are wallyworld prices, the suppliers have raised the cost of the raw materials over %100 in the last yr or so.

One has a showroom finish and everything worked except the oil and temp gauges, so I replaced those with MANUAL gauges, so my vehicle's life is not dependent on garbage made for 12 cents by General Motors! They Rhino-coated the thing underneath and inside on the floor. It has a radio and AC, too! I just drove the one vehicle 400 miles after a fluids change and thermostat replacement, then had a guy modify a Reese class III hitch for the thing. It starts fine, has a block heater and is great! The second one needs a starter and after I do that, it will be the same routine: fluids change, thermostat change, then maybe hitch too, haven't decided. This one has no rust but the paint is not as "pretty"as the other one. If you get one of the simple vehicles, such as CUCV or power wagon, or vehicles without electronics on them, they are like the W123 series and have indestructible power trains. Watch for rust on the old Chevies, try to get one from a southern state of a National Guard unbit bevaiuse the NG units are too cheap to run the old ones more than 5 minutes a month!
