The RiSE robot reminds me of the movie "Runaway" with Tom Selleck and Gene Simmons.

Reminds me of a robotic Dung beetle. I've been watching a series on NASA about the Lunar and Mars buggies leaves me amazed at how far we have come. I hope they can use this similar technology in limb replacement.

The Big Dog video is very fascinating, particularly in the way the device handled slippery surfaces and a man's attempt to knock it over.

Agreed ... I was impressed when I saw compliance built into a robot's own movements, having it when outside forces are applied is awesome and almost unbelievable. Ever closer to true AI.

Given that these are examples of what the .gov wants people to see, it gives pause for the likely SOTA for this kind of technology.

Yeah. State of the art. There are probably far more capable prototypes. It would be interesting to see how different challenges are handled. As example, they can obviously negotiate uneven terrain and dynamically adapt to outside influences. But how to do it faster? How to extend the range?
Also there are a few parodies of the bigdog that are amusing... |

That video was hilarious!Of course 2 Manhattans only heightened the levity.
That about sums up what I think of robotics. They will never replace a good, well trained hunting dog,nor a woman, for that matter. I conclude, however, thtere will always be a socially retarded and emotionally void hardcore of brilliant rejects who will eagerly embrace this artificial intelligence crap, not to mention it's military and L.E.uses. |
