I like the mango flavors, too.
My friend and I used to try to out-gross each other with potential Smoothie flavors: Atlantic Salmon Smoothie Baked Potato Smoothie Asparagus Smoothie you get the idea....

I've been making the same smoothie almost every morning for the past 3 years or so.
The objective of the smoothie is to maximize the intake of "super foods": 1 cup low-fat organic yogurt (healthy bacteria, aka pro-biotics) 1 cup wild or organic blueberries (antioxidants, phytoflavinoids) 1 banana 2 tablespoons flax seed meal (massive amounts of Omega oils and lignans) 1 squeeze of honey (about a tablespoon) Add a small amount of non-fat milk as needed to make it thin enough to drink. An aside about flax seed meal. Flax seed meal is not a grain, it is a seed. Don't be afraid of it. It has a nutty or almond-like flavor. In addition to nutritious fats and containing enormous amounts of Omega-3 (significantly more than salmon), flax seeds contain other nutrients which make eating the whole seed superior to consuming just the extracted oil: Flax seeds contain a high quality protein. Flax seeds are rich in soluble fiber. The combination of the oil and the fiber makes flaxseeds an ideal laxative. Flax seeds contain vitamins B-1, B-2, C, E, and carotene. These seeds also contain iron, zinc, and trace amounts of potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, calcium, and vitamin E and carotene, two nutrients which aid the metabolism of the oil. Flax seeds contain over a hundred times more of a phytonutrient, known as lignin, than any of its closest competitors, such as wheat bran, buckwheat, rye, millet, oats, and soybeans. Lignins have received a lot of attention lately because of possible anti-cancer properties, especially in relation to breast and colon cancer. Lignins seem to flush excess estrogen out of the body, thereby reducing the incidence of estrogen-linked cancers, such as breast cancer. Besides anti-tumor properties, lignins also seem to have antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral properties.

How about a chitlin'-n-cheese smoothie. In reality I'm partial to strawberry or melon smoothies.

That's a delightful blend.
Has anyone ever had an Orange Julius? I used to love them when I was a kid. I saw a store in the food court at my local mall and decided to get one and relive the joy. What a disappointment! It was like watered down OJ with milk and snow cone ice. I remember them being like a fruity thick milkshake. I'm hoping that particular store just sucks. I'll try one again when I come across another location.

Making my own as well, following various recipes that are similar to suginami's. I usually leave out the dairy (yogurt or milk), and substitute ice. Some tips I've found useful:
- Agree on the flaxseed meal. You can get it cheap from Amazon - it's a large quantity, but keeps well. - Adding just a touch of good cinnamon makes any fruit smoothie come alive. Penzey's has the best stuff - nothing matches their Extra Fancy Vietnamese Cassia Cinnamon. There's a huge difference between this stuff and the supermarket junk. - And finally, if you really get into it...you've gotta get a good blender. The only way to get smoothies silky-smooth like the chain places, is by investing some bucks. Just like my espresso snobbery, I justify the expense by doing the math...a good blender will pay for itself over the course of 6 months or so, if you are a regular customer at one of the smoothie chain joints. I picked up a Vita-Mix Vita-Prep 3, but there are many out there that will do the job well. |

I get ALL my spices from Penzey's and I use the Extra Fancy Vietnamese Cassia Cinnamon. It's so potent that you don't need to use as much as recipes call for unless you are a huge cinnamon fan like myself. My wife usually likes the cinnamon to be toned down a bit from the way I like it. Their ground clove is equally as potent.

Nice. That reminds me of another one of my suggestions: Limburger Smoothie.
