HELL NO!

You still wouldn't listen to him because you don't want to hear the story he is telling.

Criticising him for his big house is just a diversionary arguement.

Are you replying to me?

Yes. I thought that was perfectly clear.

OK, sorry. I changed it to H_LL NO.

But he doesn't practice what he preaches, and it's not that he's a tad excessive about it, he's overt about it. My problem with Al is the same as my problem with the evangicals of the '80s - they talk and talk and talk about how we as a majority need to behave, but while they're babbling incessantly, they're doing exactly what we're not supposed to do.

I agree, but he is not a preacher. He is who he is and he cannot change who he is.

If he were someone else nobody would listen to him.

Ah, but he IS a preacher. The only difference is that a real preacher deals with a god and he deals with his religion of environment. Same thing other than the subject.

And if he so strongly believes in something and cannot change who he is, why should we?

Unfortunately, that is true and we would write him off as the whacko he is.

That would make his message more appealing. Nobody says he has to live in a modest trailer but are you saying that what he has is not excessive? The very quality he is trying to ask us to curb?

Gandi was no Al Gore.

He died in the end at the hands of the folks he was attempting to unite too.

He claimed to abstain from all sex for the last fifteen years or so of his life too. He had a devoted niece who slept in the same bed with him.......

At the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival in 2007, former U.S. Vice-President and environmentalist Al Gore spoke of Gandhi's influence on him.[62]

Al Gore is no Gandhi.

I never mentioned the size of his house. And I never criticised the size of his house. However, if you adjust for his house size (10,000 sq ft) vs "average" (2300 sq ft), he still uses more than 4x the electricity PER SQUARE FOOT than an AVERAGE houshold. It is rather like someone going around the world telling everyone how bad it is to eat meat, and that you should be a vegetarian, and then you find out that they eat a pound of steak every day.

I would think a person who preaches producing less carbon emissions, would practice what he preaches, especially when he has the means to do so.

Actually, I can't even imaging how I would consume 22 Million watt hours in one month if I had to. I suppose I could put in a bank of industrial kilns and run them 24 hours a day. Or perhaps a heated lawn?

I think he was saying that YOU need to cut down emissions. Nothing about he himself. Edit: IOW, do as I say not as I do.

Heater crapper seats. Sex toys and the warmers for them. Heated olympic swimming pool. Get creative.

When It is all gone the absorbsion rates of heat on water vs the ice will raise the oceanic temperatures very very rapidly.

The oceans already are in distress from the effects of overfishing and pollution.

Al has done an excellent job presenting the problem in a way that non scientists can easily understand.

The message has been politicised by others who want it presented as a partisian issue because they know that most folks don't trust politicians.

Tom W
Exactly.

The fact that Al Gore is hypocritical in his behavior doesn't mitigate the problem of global warming.

Yep, Al Gore is a hypocrite. Do you then prefer to shove your head in the sand and ignore every bit of information that he pontificates?

Well..........do 'ya? (this isn't for you........Tom)

The THEORY of global warming and Al Gore being hypocritical are 2 different issues.

Surely even if we do ignore every bit of information he pontificates, it isn't the end of the world. I'm sure there are other sources that are less hypocritical that we can listen to. That is unless you are saying that he is the be all and the end all of the THEORY of global warming.

Global warming is not a theory, the THEORY is that humans are causing it.

Earth's climate is always changing and always has been without our input.
