Doesn't seem to bad, thats certianly a CA style home. You won't see one of those around here.

Might be worth going even smaller, big homes are a lot of hassel. We got rid of ours about 10 years ago, don't miss it.

Do miss the yard though.

The price is about what I would expect, CA prices seem to be about in line with CT.

Much rather buy oh I don't know, say two or three of these and bank the million or so in difference:

Yeah it is, IMHO anything more than 4k is just that more. I rather have a smaller house in a choice location.

I love old victorians. I have a lake 19th century one picked out on the water that I'd buy in a heart beat if I had the money. About 3.5k SF, huge lot with pool and dock. $1.75M.

Edit:

I just went to a cocktail party at a 12ksf watefront home in Westport. I think its worth about $15mish. They just built it, tore down what was their. Its a great spot just to much home for my tastes.

Manchester. And I guess 'cheap' is relative. We're poking about at a whole bunch of places in a $60k to $180k range.

Wife has simple requirements - minimum of half an acre (though 3 would be far closer to acceptable as a starting point) and nothing newer than 1930 (and if it's that new it'd better be a damn rockin' craftsman).

Much more interested in finding a mid-late 1700's vintage place and start having some serious fun bringing it back to life.

Oh thats way up their! Pretty country though.

I have looked at my fair share for 1700 vintage homes, no thanks you really feel like you are living in a museum! Late 19th century to 1940 is where I find a lot I like.

I want to move to Brandford, Guildford, or Clinton.

If your ever in Milford their is a really cool restored house on Gulf St thats for sale now and again. If it's on the market go see it, built in the mid 1700's and fully restored. Cool place.

Manchester is about 15 minutes east of me. They've been doing a lot of redevelopment, renovation and restoration and is probably on the cusp of a pretty decent boom. Neat little city with a big town feel with a good tax base thanks to some large malls on the northeast side.
