The Chrysler products of the sixties were more robust than about any other car made. Chevys were very light ...one reason they were quick.

The mopar blocks up into the eighties were of such high quality (hard) that my favorite machinist says that to bore one takes three passes at progressively smaller sizes. A chevy you can cut down in one pass.

People tell me my SD is SOOOOOOO HUGE... but to be honest... its an inch shorter then my Charger.... the Charger was a mid size car... so the SD isn't all that big.

There is nothing like driving down the freeway in the Charger. its like driving a Sofa down the interstate. smooth, and the seat is so soft, gotta love the bench seat!

A lot of you guys are young and have never had the chance to drive, post WWII Chryslers, until the mid-70's, when the EPA/DOT laws and the price of fuel gutted them. Jay Leno and me are the same age. He states the awe we had when we were kids, in those big Chryslers. They are even more special, today, as they are extinct. Don't pass up an opportunity to experience a drive.

Yeah, the 60's Imperials were and are awesome. I have the '64 Crown 4dr that once belonged to my folks, which they bought 6mos after it left the dealer's lot the first time. Still in 1964. In the day, it would get an honest 15mpg. I know it to be true, as we checked the odometer several times and the fuel usage calcs were all mine on the trusty slip stick!!

It is painted a gun metal grey, and has the 413 wedge, the last year push button tranny, all black leather interior, A/C and tinted windows, power windows and Radio-heater-whitewalls. The last was a swipe at the period TV ads. With today's fuel prices it doesn't get used much, and of course all were barred from demolition derbys long ago.

My 73 had the 400 with a 2 barrel, and it got 14-15 mpg when it was my dad's car. Then I got it and lead-footed it to a consistent 11.5 mpg. That was when mid grade was a buck a gallon, so it didn't really hurt.

I'd love to have the chance to at least take some older BIG cars like that for a drive, just to feel how they drive and hear that torque glide trans and huge V8....that'd be sweet.

Now is the time to buy a late 60's/early 70's land yacht.

True, those and full size pickups. We've been junking some rather nice full-size American iron that nobody wants anymore. If the price of gas end up coming back down (not likely), a lot of people are going to be kicking themselves. It's happened before.

to me the cost of fuel is not important. I mean, it i go out for a night in my Toyota, its normally to the movies or to dinner or some other form of entertainment. but driving the Charger is entertainment its self, I enjoy every mile I put on it. so end the end, burning 40 bucks in one night driving that around, is the same as taking the Toyota and getting some pizzas.

with the cost of diesel at 5 bucks, driving the Mercedes is getting to be like driving the Charger. I only drive it when I want the thrill of driving it... and that makes me sad.

My neighbor would love that car, he is an Imperal nut and has two Imperial convertibles and a Fury hard top.
He also has a 68 formula-S Barracuda coupe in tawny gold with a 340, 4 spd.

Here's my latest progress pic of my street monster 67 Barracuda coupe.

I was suprized that a week after I posted pics of it on cardomain.com, it was voted top ride and held for two days.

I'm not finished with the 'cuda, but I'm already contemplating what I'm gonna do with my Dart swinger build.
