.

1/10 of the size of New Mexico could meet the energy needs for
the entire United States.

.

Thats the video I linked to in the "wake up and start drilling" thread.

Neato torpedo! What's the downside to this? I mean there's ALWAYS a downside, isn't there? I can't imagine what it would be.

Wouldn't that tend to counteract our output of CO2 as well? I wonder if that would have any effect upon the ozone layer?

Devastates the economy of KSA.

Ksa?

Over the eons, we have heard of plenty of ideas and products that have great promise. Very seldom do we ever hear of them again. I hope this is an exception.

Nah, Exxon (or the KSA directly) will buy them out and we will never see this again...

And shrink Al Qaeda's budget. I like it.

It's a twofer!

chetwesley 07-24-2008 01:48 PM

That's great. I have heard of it before, but never seen it in action or had it explained so clearly. Thanks for posting.

SwampYankee 07-24-2008 02:05 PM

Very cool. And looks promising.

Dee8go 07-24-2008 02:27 PM

Wonder what would happen if the US gubmint was to fund some research like that instead of blowing all of our fricking tax money on this stupid war?

DieselAddict 07-24-2008 02:44 PM

So what's holding this up from going mainstream? I've been reading about this algae-to-fuel thing for several years now, but it seems most people just talk about it and nothing is done. I hope this goes mainstream soon.

Yeah, but watch out. It's possible if SA senses that we're getting close to finding a viable alternative energy source that can replace oil, they will start pumping oil like crazy and make it drop in price sufficiently that it becomes the most attractive option again.
